This was a venue that use to make sense and book a lot of great bands. Waaaaaaayyyyyyyback in the day. No reason it should not still be that. However, in the last year I did go see a band I've been a fan of for a long time at WOW hall. Surprised that after a few years they booked a good band. Walked in to the show and the sound was so bad I couldn't hardly recognize it was even the band I was a fan of. It looked like them. And after I realized it was them I had to walk out after two songs. No vocal coming through. Could have been any random bar band. WOW eventually booked or hosted another band I was a fan of that I already had the prelate of seeing in bend. So, I passed. But eventually they booked yet another band I like and reluctantly I waited until the last minute before deciding to go though fearing I would be utterly devastated by the garbage sound again. I argued with myself that I should go to support the band and planned on just never going back if the sound was bad again. However, at the door they didn't take credit cards?!?!?? I'm at the point that I rarely even use credit cards and apple pay everything. By some random miracle I had 20 dollars cash in my pocket that I offered for the show. Show was already half over anyway. I use to be a music promoter and know about people low balling the door to try to get in. This wasn't that at all. They declined it and said I had to use an ATM in their office. I bit my tongue hard and left. Would rather drive to Portland or Bend to see a good show at this point. This is a wasted venue. I just hope they don't book bands I like because I won't be going. And, I have noticed the venue now only books old music. Never anything new. Not that you could trust any fresh curation out of a venue that can't figure out how to take credit cards. A grandma could probably set up a credit card reader for a garage sale in under 20 minutes. Even the music shops in Eugene are like walking into a 20 year music time capsules. The town that use to be. This town needs a real venue because WOW is...
Read moreThis place is a tradition here in The EUG. It is a Community Hall with miles of smiles. It does have a beer/cider/wine bar in the basement for 21+(with a video feed from the stage on a flat screen downstairs) so sometimes you spend half your show downstairs! But if you have kids (or just under 21years old) it's one of the few places the whole family can go to get their boogie ON! So many kids here have grown up napping under the old bleacher seating(safely of course!) Or on the church pews. It's a part of us all. So if you're visiting town, or decided you're staying, pick a show you like, and do yourself a favor and see a close up slice of Eugene vibes @the WOW Hall. Some great Youngbloods have taken over the helm and are steering it to great new places while still keeping reverence...
Read moreNew to the area. I bought ticket to see Saxsquatch. I read the history in the hall, which is interesting— an example of what people can accomplish when something is important to them. Doors were supposed to open at 7, performance at 8. I tried to read up so I would be prepared. The show was delayed. The line was all the way down the street. They sent an email at some point saying the show would start at 8:30, but I heard 8:45 on the street. I got inside and found cash was required for the bar. Single woman, new place, hell no I didn’t have cash on me. No purse or any other temptations. Anyway, I waited and waited. The DJ showed around 9. Saxsquatch was no where to be seen and I left disgusted just before 9:30. No apology, no refund. I...
