They do have signs about this! I just wasn't thinking and was in a rush because someone else was waiting for the machine. It was completely my fault, but when I emailed Yamada Co. to tell them what happened, they got back to me in less than 10 minutes with amazing customer service and offering me a few potential solutions depending on whether the item fell to the back of the machine or not. The coin operated Gashapon machines had fun/ kawaii prizes from Studio Ghibli, Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, Hello Kiity and other Sanrio characters. And the vending machines had hard to find Japanese snacks and drinks, they even had chocolate Taiyaki!
