Unfortunately, my husband and I decided to go to Rouge Manor last night for a romantic dinner. What we received was FAR from that. I wish we would have had the experience that other reviewers were able to have. This place has such HUGE potential to be an amazing restaurant. The ambiance is perfect, but sadly the staff/service we received immediately tainted our experience from the beginning. Upon entry, we were NOT greated by the very rude and unprofessional hostess. After standing and waiting for a few minutes, she finally told us there was a spot open at the bar and that we could sit there and order drinks while waiting for a table to come open. As she was seating us, my husband clarified to her again that we wanted to sit at a table when one becomes available. The hostess got extremely rude and unprofessional with him, even rolling her eyes at him. She stated in a very rude tone that we would be sat at a table when one became available. My husband looked at me in confusion. I really don't understand why she snapped like she did, but our experience was definitely not off to a good start. (Reading other reviews and watching with our own eyes; my husband and I believe that seating you at the bar is a gimmick to get you to order EXTREMELY overpriced drinks from the bartender. My husband got one drink (granted it was a double) and it was $23 + tip. They also made us pay the bartender before we left the bar, which we found to be extremely unusual.) We sat at the bar and started to overlook the drink menu. The bartender behind the bar was nice, but you could tell she was under extreme pressure. All she did the entire time we sat there was complain about how busy she was. She yelled at servers that came to the bar. One server got yelled at so badly, I really felt bad for her. I looked at my husband and asked if he wanted to go somewhere else. THIS is where we should have walked away but we really wanted to give this place a chance. After about 5 minutes at the bar (what do you know, just enough time to order a drink), we were taken to a table by the rude hostess. They were pretty busy, being it was Saturday night at 7pm, but to our surprise there were plenty of tables open. Our server came over and greated us fairly quickly. We were undecided so we told her to come back (huge mistake). She didn't come back to our table for 20 minutes!! Walked by multiple times to help other tables but completely ignored us like we were not even there. A nice lady seated next to us even told us she couldn't believe we hadn't been helped yet. Finally, she took our order around 8pm. We got to the restaurant shortly after 7. I ordered a New York strip steak and my husband ordered the 20 ounce lobster tail. The King Crab Leg Dinner sign they have displayed outside is what got us in the door. They charge $68 for ONE 1lb crab leg. Complete rip off, so we decided to order something else. We got our food at 9pm!! They close at 9pm. While we waited for our food, our waitress never asked if we needed anymore drinks or even assured us that our food would be out. I will say, I watched other tables and that seems to be an issue they have across the board, the wait time is horrible!! Now to the food, my steak was surprisingly cooked good and it was definitely the star of our dinner. My husband's $120 lobster tail was so tough, he couldn't even cut it with a fork; he had to use my steak knife. Lobster should fall apart if cooked correctly. The sides were just sub par. We walked away with such a disappointing feeling. Dropping $200 on 2 dinners and 1 drink to have an experience like that is just sickening. What is even more upsetting is this place has such huge potential, its sad to see it being ran like it is. We asked a few locals about it and we were told that they recently changed owners and it has changed from what it used to be. Message to the new owner; you will not make it with service like this. The staff that we interacted with acted like they would rather not be there. Unfortunately, we will...
Read moreIt's a huge regret that I ate here. Even a larger one that I didn't send the food back. My first indicator should have been the torn drapes that look to have never been washed or replaced. To start, we ordered the salmon appetizer. This should have been my second indicator to stop, pay the bill, and leave. The salmon arrived with a dull grey presentation. A straight-forward give-away that the fish was not fresh and most likely previously frozen. The drab colored salmon was slightly disguised as the lighting was beyond poor in the establishment. There are large, beautiful paintings through the restaurant. From what I could tell, they all have light fixtures above them that don't work - or at least weren't. Still, the only things covering these paintings effectively was dust. Such a shame. I ordered the NY steak priced around $50, plus an additional $5 for the sautéed mushrooms. I absolutely wish I took a photo of the salmon and the steak to showcase just how atrocious the food was. Although, I imagine if I want to donate another nearly $200 to this establish I could go back and take some. Their food quality I doubt has improved between Friday and today (Monday). The steak, I cringe to admit, was worse than the salmon. Far worse. It too was grey in presentation and the texture was that of liver. Anyone who knows food - especially steak, knows that this is a dead give away it too was frozen. In addition, it was tough, chewy, and over cooked. Horrible quality. I could have and SHOULD have gone to Walmart to buy my own fish and meat. The experience would have been better, tastier and much superior in terms of price. The snap peas were scrumptious, so of course this was the smallest portion on my plate. Probably 1/4 of a cup worth. The garlic potatoes, also good, were probably my favorite part of the dinner. That alone should say something - the potatoes were my favorite part of the ENTIRE MEAL. Like I started with, I regret not sending this back and bringing it to staff's attention. The kicker was at the end of the meal. (No we didn't have dessert. I just wanted to leave.) When I informed the server, Andy, that I did not receive the sautéed mushrooms I ordered. He came back, placed $6 in front of me and said, "Here's your money back. Your check is already closed. I'll just pay for the mushrooms out of my own pocket." No, Andy, you did not, in fact, pay for my mushrooms. I tipped you 20% of a $140 ticket knowing full well, the quality of the food was not your fault. Even if I deducted the $5 from that amount, you still would have received the same amount without the mushrooms. The mushrooms that you "paid for" was a clear oversight between the kitchen and you that you, as a final line of inspection, failed to correct before bringing the plate table side. I am slightly annoyed I didn't reduce your tip for that sideways comment at the end. This restaurant does not have pride in itself has demonstrated by the lighting, the decor, the cleanliness and, even, the staff attire. The bus boy was nearly the most well groomed and dressed. This is a sad and tired restaurant with food that reflects that same spirit. I feel sorry for whomever dines at this restaurant when there are higher quality establishments and food options in the Eureka...
Read moreMy husband and I canceled our normal reservations at the Grotto to try out Rogue Manor instead and what a HUGE mistake! Without going into detail let me just say that the Grotto is amazing and I highly recommend! Rogue manor is just so very disappointing. Rogue is country kitchen buffet food. It's awful. First off, it's a beautiful building. So much potential. Great location and so easy and enjoyable to walk to the restaurant. Having said that, the problem is the service and food/drinks. Our cocktails were very expensive and not good. We ordered bread which was actually fresh and awesome. It was maybe a mix of rye and sourdough. I do highly recommend the bread and the bread alone! Everything else was horrible. The house salad is just bagged iceberg and the entrees we ordered were inedible. I ordered the Greek chicken. My husband ordered the tarragon chicken. Our plates looked exactly the same which was green mush. My husband ate about a quarter of his plate and only because he was starving after not eating all day in anticipation of our 18th anniversary dinner. I ate one bite and sent it back. The "greek" chicken was a sad sloppy mash of what seemed to be microwaved chicken smothered in a questionable greenish colored sauce with a few canned olives and capers thrown on top. My husband's dish was the tarragon chicken which was smothered in a similar green sauce nearly indistinguishable from my dish. My Greek chicken was so salty I couldn't eat more than one bite. I have never once in my life sent a plate back to the kitchen but I did at Rogue! It was inedible. I was served minute rice and soggy bland chicken that was also overly salty at the time. Mortons table salt salty. The worst "fine dining" experience we have ever had. Our waiter comes back and we tell him that my food is awful and salty and he says it's because there's olives and capers in the dish as if ive never eaten both. Insulting. We sit there completely IGNORED for 20 minutes. We expected a manager or some explanation. We got nothing. We finally had enough and had to go to the front desk to ask for our check (with my "meal" removed) from a teenage busboy. We paid and left no tip obviously because while I don't blame our waiter for the quality of the food I do blame him for not checking in with us or following up in any way. We go to eureka multiple times a year and we have always had such amazing food/service that this experience left us shocked. We wound up going to Chelsea's and getting a quesadilla and drinks which were both great thankfully! Needless to say we will never go to Rogue Manor again. Even the bartender at Chelsea's said she had heard similar complaints recently. Save your time and money and go to the Grotto. It's exceptional food and service!
EDIT: The owner called me personally today apologizing for our experience. He offered a full meal on him the next time we visit Eureka. I appreciate this SO MUCH! We will def give Rogue another chance next time we are in town. Thank you for following up and setting things right! Everyone has off days so I do understand! Many thanks! THIS is the customer service you get at the New orleans hotel (same owner). We always have an amazing time at the hotel and I see why! The owner...
