Z & J Asian Subs in Eureka is a hidden treasure that offers a fusion of bold Asian flavors and the casual convenience of a sub shop. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of freshly prepared ingredients and the warmth of a team that clearly loves what they do. Over the years, Z & J has become a personal favorite of mine—one of those places I find myself craving again and again.
A Unique Culinary Adventure
Z & J isn’t your typical sandwich shop—it’s an experience. Their menu takes inspiration from Vietnamese, Thai, and other Asian cuisines, blending traditional flavors with a fresh, modern twist. Each sub is made with care, starting with a perfectly crisp baguette and ending with a symphony of textures and flavors.
The Sub That Changed Everything
One visit to Z & J, and I was hooked. I ordered the Lemongrass Chicken Sub, and it’s been my go-to ever since. The chicken was marinated to perfection, bursting with citrusy and herbaceous flavors, while the crisp pickled carrots and radishes added the perfect tangy crunch. A touch of jalapeño gave it a spicy kick, and the fresh cilantro tied everything together beautifully. Each bite was an explosion of flavor, and I remember thinking, “Why haven’t I been eating sandwiches like this my whole life?”
Beyond the Subs
While their subs are the main attraction, Z & J also offers other incredible dishes that highlight their culinary creativity. The spring rolls are light and refreshing, served with a sweet and savory dipping sauce that perfectly complements the fresh veggies and shrimp. Their pho is another standout—a steaming bowl of fragrant broth loaded with tender beef and perfectly cooked noodles. Pairing it with a traditional Vietnamese iced coffee added the perfect sweet, creamy finish to my meal.
A Personal Touch
What makes Z & J truly special is the personal connection they bring to every meal. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and eager to share their passion for the food they serve. On one of my visits, I struck up a conversation with the team, and they shared how much pride they take in sourcing fresh ingredients and preparing everything in-house. It’s clear that they’re not just making food—they’re creating an experience.
Why Z & J Is a Must-Visit
Z & J Asian Subs is more than just a place to grab lunch—it’s a celebration of flavor, culture, and community. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite on the go or sitting down to savor a meal, you’ll leave feeling satisfied and excited to come back for more.

Read moreI wanted to like that sub so much because I spent $20 on a sub and a small smoothie. I thought I was giving myself a treat. I got the pulled pork sub medium spice. The things that were good with the sub were the bread and the cucumber. The meat, although it was fairly generous, did not have any flavor and was a really bad texture. Mushy. The sauce they put on the sub tasted like really really vinegar ketchup with maybe something else mixed in that was hard to pinpoint. I kept eating the sub trying to make it taste good but it didn’t work. Like I said, I really wanted to like this sub. And then to add insult to injury, the sandwich is wrapped in paper, which I really like because it’s environmentally sound. I bought the sandwich and drink for my car trip, so I was eating it while I’m driving. The paper wasn’t wrapped very well around the end of the sub. And like I said it’s paper. so when I took a bite the sauce which they put a little too much of just gushed out the bottom of the sub and all over my pants. I was going to visit family and had to go with that all over my clothes. Also, they somehow wrapped the paper into the sandwich like in between the bread and the stuff inside and no matter how hard I tried to pull it out while I was driving, I was eating paper. Some of the time when I thought I was eating paper. And in some of the time it wasn’t the paper it was just the really poorly textured pork that felt like paper in my mouth and didn’t have a flavor. Like I said, I really wanted to like this sandwich and kept eating it. After a while, I just gave up because I kept having to pull stuff out of my mouth that was either paper or tasted like paper. The cilantro was not chopped. It was left in whole pieces, so there were these branches of cilantro that would pull out of the sandwich while trying to get a bite. And then after about an hour or so my stomach started really hurting. I think it’s because there was so much vinegar...
Read moreI am 63 years old and this is the first review I have ever written. I am doing so because the food was horrible. My hubby ordered BBQ Beef Sub, it should be called shredded carrot Sub as that is the main ingredient. He actually scraped away the tons of carrot to locate some beef as he really thought they had forgot to put any on. Beef tasted gross and hubby did not eat and said it was the worst sub he ever had in his life.I ordered pulled pork sub. The bread and sauce was good but pork tasted old and veggies did not impress. Also ordered small Chinese chicken salad and it was the worst I ever had. I suspect it was made in advance as it was soggy and had very heavy onion flavor. My total was $27.25. I felt totally ripped off and will...
