Sushi Spot Eureka — Restaurant in Eureka

The Good: Probably the best selection and quality sushi in Humboldt county for the price and their patio dining area is wonderful as long as the weather is decent. I also appreciate the consistency between all of their locations, although the Eureka is my go-to since I live there. Friendly staff make the experience easy and enjoyable whether you dine in or take out.

The Meh: Having a 1 hour + wait time for take out orders is a bit long. I know they are busy and rightly prioritize dine in customers, but maybe adding an extra body or two in the kitchen could cut that take out time wait time in half? Maybe?

The Bad: The parking situation is absolutely horrid if you’re not there when they open. I’ve had to park at the hotel across the street once or twice to pick up my take out orders. And the driveway connected to 4th street can be dangerous pulling in and out of the parking lot. Doesn’t affect my rating of the food or service, but with all the shuttered businesses on 4th/5th, I would have thought they could have picked a...

Mixed review.

Sushi is my favorite food, and I have had the food fortune to eat at well over 100 sushi restaurants around the world. More than 50 in Japan alone, so my comments are based on broad personal experience.

Now, at this restaurant the waitperson service was excellent, as was the Agadash tofu.

Rainbow roll was so-so. The shrimp in the center was so small it was difficult to see/taste it.

Biggest disappointment was the Nigiri Sushi.

I ordered two of my favorite nigiri, Unagi and Saba.

The Saba portion was not well cut and presented, almost hacked.

However the Unagi nigiri was the major disappointment.

Unagi nigiri is always served warm from the broiler, with unagi eel sauce lightly dressing on the top of the Unagi.

I was excited to try this new spot because the mckinleyville location is so good..... but was absolutely disappointed with the food and the cleanliness... food was overly salted and i never complain about that so it was inedible... and super fishy and i ordered cooked food... maybe fishy fingers? Who knows... and the tables were sticky with a film on them and they were half hour from closing and were told to hurry up...... excuse me but i dont care if i show up one minute before closing i expect to be treated like any other patron at any time of day... i will never return to this...
