I had dinner at Siam Orchid with my family. First off, we were a large party and the staff seated us no problems. They were very accomodating with our little ones (two in high chairs). The ambiance of the restaurant is fine. Parking is virtually non-existant, but we had no problems parking across the street and walking.
I ordered the Pad Thai. It was served with the vegetable ingredients on the side. It made for an attractive looking plate, but I would have preferred to have them more integrated into the plate. I had no problem getting some in every bite, though. I decided to add pork to my dish. I often opt for pork because it has a tendency to stay more moist than chicken, and has a richer flavor too. The pork was ok. I wish it was sliced just a bit thinner and cooked just a hair less. It wasn't displeasing, but I think the texture and integration into a bite that also includes noodles and vegetables would work better. Don't get me wrong, the flavor was good, and the cut was just fine. I just personally would cut the meat a little differently. The noodles were the appropriate consitency for rice noodles. The tamarind came through beautifully in the sauce, and each bite was packed with flavor. I enjoyed this dish and would order it again.
My wife ordered the Yellow Curry with chicken and sticky rice. The flavors were good, and the vegetables, notably the potato, was cooked to the standard consitency you find in Thai curries. The chicken was moist and integrated well into the sauce. The sticky rice was the authentic variety, meaning it is very chewy and adds a great foundation to every bite of curry. The sticky rice is good enough that you can break into pieces and eat it with your fingers if you so choose. My wife is a lightweight when it comes to spicy food, and she thought it was a bit too spicy. I thought it was about right. I actually enjoyed the curry more than my pad thai (we always go halvsies on dishes when we go out). I would order the yellow curry again, as would my wife.
For the kids we ordered the Chicken Satay from the starter menu. It comes out on spits and is accompanied by a peanut sauce. The meat was cooked just right and had good flavor on its own (I snuck one from the plate). The peanut sauce is excellent. Good, creamy texture with just the right amount of peanut grit in it. The sauce might have been the best thing I ate that night.
The bottom line is that while parking is scarce, the staff is great, the ambiance is average, and the food is very good. We had a very good dining experience. I was just visiting the area, but I will come back the next time...
Read moreHonestly this place doesn't deserve this star, if there was an option lower than no stars it would be it. Shannon and i had a terribly awful experience at the Siam Orchid in Eureka Ca, today. We decided to go to this place because we have never gone there before and we wanted to try thai cuisine. We get there and was seated fairly promptly. Noticed that the place was fairly packed which is a good rule of thumb and lets you know if the food is good. We were given menu's and took us about ten minutes to order, We ordered a main course each and shannon gets us two apps (appetizers). We got water, And on my glass was this crud of someones lips which i could clearly see two sets of lip prints on the rim of the glass so took this into consideration to bring this to the waiters attention when he brought us our apps. Twenty minutes go by and still no apps!, We figured they were busy so we continued to wait...., Another twenty minutes go by (still no apps!!) and at this time i notice that empty tables around us way after we've been seated were filling, having their orders taken and getting food before us!! By this time an hour went by and we still havent received our apps!!!, I'm losing my s**t at this point. Fifteen more minutes and Shannon says "lets go" So Shannon leaves and i soon follow and just as i am approaching the door to exit i hear a female voice ((one of the waitresses i noticed that worked there)) said: ("Do you still want your spring rolls?")(one of two of the apps we ordered) I turn my head in disgust and give her this (you guys ruined our experience and im not happy look on my face) but didnt make eye contact with the waitress because i was so disgusted, so i proceeded to leave and slam the door in a frustrated rage but it didnt let me because the door had a hydraulic press. We were so irritated we left. Smh at just the lack of service 😕😞....And Shannon never wants to go back there ever again and i dont blame him.
P.S. Idk....I got that feeling like they didnt want to serve us, That it was just negligence on thier part and they forgot we were sitting right in front of them in plain sight!, This really hurts my soul because i don't know if it was a mistake or if it was...

Review: Nestled in the quaint streets of Eureka, CA, Siam Orchid Thai Cuisine at 427 V St. has been a staple in my travel itinerary for years. This simple yet charming Thai restaurant offers a heartwarming experience that goes beyond just dining.
Navigating through Eureka's downtown, with its myriad of one-way streets, can be a bit of a maze. But the journey to Siam Orchid is always worth the effort. The restaurant boasts ample parking at the rear, easing one of the potential hassles of dining in a bustling area.
The interior of Siam Orchid is spacious and inviting, with a serene ambiance that sets the stage for a delightful meal. It's worth noting that during peak hours, the place can get quite busy, testament to its popularity among both locals and visitors. A quick call ahead can save you from any unexpected waits, ensuring your visit is as smooth as the flavors you're about to savor.
On my latest visit, I opted for a comforting dish of ginger with mushrooms, veggies, and chicken, accompanied by a side of jasmine rice. Each bite was a blend of fresh ingredients and aromatic spices, perfectly embodying the essence of Thai cuisine. Paired with a cup of hot green tea, it was the ideal meal for a cool NorCal day, all for a reasonable price of around $22.
Siam Orchid Thai Cuisine is more than just a restaurant; it's a warm hug in the form of food. It's a place where the spices not only flavor the dishes but also warm the soul. If you ever find yourself meandering through Eureka, make a point to stop by Siam Orchid. It's a culinary gem that offers a taste of Thailand right in the heart of Northern...
