We had a great meal at Big Wig Tacos and Burritos in Evanston.
The menu could not be any simpler or easier to understand.
First, you pick from Skirt Steak, Barbacoa, Avocado, Chicken, Veggies, Chorizo, or Mahi Mahi as your protein.
Then you pick your vessel: Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas, Nachos Bowls, or Tortas.
Lastly, you can order a side of: Rice and Beans, Chips and Salsa, Chips and Guacamole, or Chips and Queso.
They also offer fountian drinks, Horchata, Hibiscus Tea, and Jarritos.
We ordered a bowl with Skirt Steak, Rice and Beans, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Sour Cream and 2 Cheeses. Our other order was 3 Skirt Steak Tacos with Onion, Cilantro, and Cheese with a side of Chips and Guacamole(one order is enough for two).
The bowl already comes with rice and beans, so you do not need to order a separate side of this.
The steak was cooked very well, and the portions in the bowl were large. In fact, I almost did not finish my bowl, but it was so good that I managed to finish it.
To drink, we had a Hibiscus tea that was really delicious and refreshing. Plus, a Horchata that was as good as it gets. Really delicious drinks!
All orders are made fresh to order in an open kitchen.
We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they have two other locations, one in River North and one in Logan Square.
Owner/Chef Jose Estrada explained how he came up with the concept and recipes for the restaurant, and boy, are we glad that he did. A really great family inspiration.
We will definitely be returning to Big Wig Tacos and Burritos and checking out their other 2...
Read moreWow wow wow !!!! finally another fast, quick yummy Mexican restaurant in Evanston!
So I ordered here tonight for dinner on their online portal and the food was ready in 10 minutes. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating to anything additional I may need. I got 2 chorizo tacos, a chicken fajita, and a side of rice and beans. the chorizo tacos were absolutely beautiful, by far my favorite !! The chicken fajita was great too ! The rice and beans are pretty standard but I am glad I can get them somewhere quick and close ! the salsa is very flavorful but it is not very spicy. (still recommend!) The price is pretty reasonable, as the portions are big. The place is pretty cute, id come eat in it sometime. I think it shines more as a takeout though. It also surprises me they are open so late but its pretty cool since pretty much all of else of evanston are early snoozers. I will be coming back...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place, but it was beyond disappointing. My boyfriend and I ordered tacos, a burrito, a quesadilla, and the rice/beans. The rice tasted like nothing, the beans were weirdly acidic and tasted like they were a week old, the quesadilla oozed with oil and was way too salty, and the tacos and burrito didn’t come with any salsa because we didn’t want to pay 50¢ extra for pico. We eat/cook Mexican food quite often and the fact that this place is fronting as an authentic place (their website claims “they’re legit” and offer “classic Mexican food”) is so messed up. The worst part? The food is so overpriced that once you realize how poor the quality is, you’ll have heart palpitations. You’re much better off supporting your local Mexican joint where the price will be right and the food will...
