Ridgeville Tavern — Restaurant in Evanston Township

The drinks were fine but the service was awful. I came here with a group of coworkers to celebrate one of them and as soon as we came in the restaurant our server seemed annoyed by our presence. We are service workers so we go out of our way to be friendly to other service workers, but our server seemed to have decided to have an issue with us before even taking our order. She cussed at one of us, was gone for extended periods of time without checking in on us, and failed to explain their policy of not being able to split checks for a group larger than 6. When we all were ready to put our cards in to split the bill evenly we were informed that it could only be split 4 ways. We were told this is how it is at every restaurant, which is not true, and one of us ended up having to pay the bill in it’s entirety so we could just get out of there. When we tried to speak to a manager to explain the hostility we had experienced all night we were just met with even more hostility. Usually this is a classy bar to go to but the past couple of weeks have been pretty horrific. Last night was the worst case of harassment I have experienced outside this bar. Not only have they already had shootings here but last night there had to have been at least seven homeless people waiting outside the front door harassing people for money. This is a crime waiting to happen. Most patrons are drunk, all it will take is for one of them to say the wrong thing and that is it. I don't understand why the owners are not doing more to secure the safety of their customers. It was extremely scary last night. Also, keep in mind the downtown Evanston goes dead after 10 so if you are walking to your car from the bar, you don't know if your kids or you will be safe. They should have called the police to take care of this situation and disperse it. I would not advise anyone to stay...

The good. Food quality is terrific. Prices fair. Server attitude also good.

The bad. We came at 750 pm on a Tuesday. Ordered our food at 805. By 830, no food had made it. Only then did server come by to say they have a big group in back and kitchen can't do our food until done making theirs. No mention of this when we ordered. Had we known, we would have left and eaten elsewhere.

Another 20 minutes go by before food finally shows up. At 848. And only happened because we finally spoke with manager. No apology from management and no comp anything to make up. The server genuinely felt bad but out of his control.

So if you are ok that the kitchen can only cook one plate at a time and that management reaction is uncaring, then enjoy. Again the food is good and prices fair. Just bring a lot...
