The food was ok. I ordered a Frisco melt with cajun fries and a mint chocolate milkshake. That meal alone is enough calories for a day! The sandwich was edible. My husband ordered the Frisco Prime which made me wonder what kind of meat I was eating. The fries were crispy but small. The canjun was just sprinkling regular fries with canjun spice. Eh. The milkshake was delicious but then again how can it not be? The service was good and we did leave a 20% tip which is weird to me because I still consider the place fast food. We were served tableside so the servers deserved something. The cleanliness of the place brought the stars down. The restaurant area looked like they cleaned the bare minimum and my husband said the men's restroom was worse. Steak and Shake is a unique (mainly their milkshakes) and I hope this one is able to stay in business.
5 days later...It was over 90 degrees out and I was working in a hot garage for several hours. I happened to be passing this Steak n' Shake at 9pm and thought a milkshake would really hit the spot. I waited patiently as the 3 cars ahead of me ordered. I finally approached the window to excitedly place my order and then I was told "We are out of Shakes for the night." WHAT?!!! Isn't there a 'Shake' in the name for a reason? I didn't want anything else and what made it worse was that I was stuck. I had to wait for the 3 cars ahead of me because there were 2 cars behind me. So I waited for over 10 minutes in a line for nothing. Thanks a lot,...

Food was surprisingly good, both the Cheddar Scramble and the follow up Wisconsin Butter Burger with crisp shoestring fries.Coffee (black) was excellent and served in an adorable retro diner mug. The meals were inexpensive and a good value.
Surroundings were retro diner and roomy, light-filled from all the windows and pleasant. I ate at the spacious counter.
Service was slow. They were understaffed. For about the first hour of my visit two very pleasant, cheerful, accomodating, and incredibly overworked adults were running the whole show, doing absolutely everything from waiting and bussing tables, taking orders at the drive through window and on the phone to cooking everything and checking people through. I watched them. Another middle aged man showed up after the rush and the feeling of chaos abated. Everyone was nice. I see by reading the other Google reviews that slow service is pretty much the standard. The hard working folks in this restaurant today deserve at least one more fellow employee.
I would have gone 4 or 4.5 stars were it not for that issue, which by no means is any reflection on the hardest working restaurant staff I've ever seen.
I'll definitely return.

5.09.2019: A couple additional visits brings this Steak and Shake...
Read moreCraving a steak, i decided the next best affordable thing as having steak, steak as burgers! This chain is well known for their steakburgers and premium milkshakes. Their extensive menu is divided by: salads, melts, steakburgers, franks, chili, and kids meal.
Voted #1 by Zagat survey, this chain sells variations of milkshakes. There's different types of classic ($2.99), ($3.99): specialty, side by side, and fresh banana milkshales. Even breakfast shakes $3.99 (cereal milkshakes)! Pay half off during happy hour!
On any gluttonous day, I'll settle for the side by side milkshake type of having 2 kinds of milkshake in one glass. Today, I ordered a kit Kat milkshake.
Steakburgers with thin cut fries are under $4! I ordered the Jamaican style; I wish I could describe the flavor, I inhaled that burger because I was soooo hungry! I had leftovers because the milkshake filled me up even though I didn't finish 3/4 of it.
I'm satisfied with the bill: 2 steakburgers with fries and 2 milkshakes equals around $16. Free parking. Besides being busy with the drive thru, the staff was friendly and checked up...
