Upon entering Cafe UU, my ears were immediately hit by the soothing sounds of Lou Donaldson. NOT what I was expecting to hear in a Korean restaurant but oh so appreciated. While I waited (not very long) for the host to take my order, I quickly looked up "uu". "...slow, leisurely paced, peaceful and unhurried in Korean." Ah-ha. The ambiance of Cafe Uu is definitely that. From how seating is set up, I would say this place is great for date night AND #solo diners like me!
Had the kimichi jeon and the Sundubu Jjigae. I prefer my kimichi extra fermented... the funkier, the tastier! The kimichi in tonight's jeon was on the fresher side, lol, but still did not take away from the deliciousness of it. Perfectly cooked and browned just the way I like and was accompanied by two dipping sauces, one soy sauce base, the other gochujang with twist. The size alone is enough to be considered a meal, so definitely shareable if you're dining in with a friend. The sundubu jjigae was doctored with several pieces of pork belly (at my request) and piping hot on arrival. I wish there was a little bit more kick, more spicey-ness, but none the less, still tasty and quite filling.
Overall, a very pleasurable experience being that this was my first time here. Im grateful that this is here in the city of Everett. I normally have to drive out to Lynnwood, Bothell, or Edmonds to get my Korean food fix.
Things to note: Mon thru Friday, come after 6 and you don't have to worry about those "90 minutes only" parking...
Read moreI brought my mom and niece to the opening night for Cafe uu and we had the place to ourselves. The interior is modern and warm, with lots of really interesting lighting touches. Staff was very friendly and the service was good. Cafe uu's food is best described as Korean-inspired. Standard Korean fare - savory pancakes (jeon), bbq short ribs (kalbi), and rice rolls (kimbap) make an appearance, but it neither bills itself as, nor serves purely traditional Korean food. We ordered the kimchi jeon and three servings of kalbi ssam (lettuce wraps). The food was very good - the jeon excellent. If the kalbi meat was not the highest quality I've ever had, it was also not the worst. The variety of lettuce and other vegetables served as accompaniments for the ssam was great, though it wasn't quite what I expected from the description "banchan," as I've definitely never been served banchan that didn't include kimchi. The ssam is a LOT of food - you're definitely getting value for the ~ $25/person - and serving it with soup is a nice touch, though the staff seemed a little overwhelmed to realize not all of the food would fit on our 4-top. Overall, Cafe uu is a nice addition to the food options in downtown Everett. I'll definitely be back to try their rice and...
Read moreWhat an amazing find! We googled “best restaurant in Everett” and happened to find this place. The main takeaway I have from this dining experience was that everything was clearly intentional. The exterior of the building and the interior decor both complement each other, with an understated pseudo industrial feel to it. They had gentle jazz music playing in the background, which was perfect for the ambience. The wine list was great. We tried the Damsel cellars cab, and it might be our new favorite wine. For an appetizer, we had the baguette with ricotta cheese, honey, and herbs. The portion was generous, and the presentation was great. Delicious too. For our entrées we had coconut curry noodles with tofu and also the flank steak plate. Great flavor all around, and great presentation. At the end of the evening, we met Kim the owner, and she was so incredibly nice and kind. It was a fantastic dining experience and we will certainly be back. And as a final classy little touch, they gave us our receipt in a book. I haven’t seen that before, but it certainly made an impression.
Our only regret was that we didn’t take pictures of the food. We never do that, but we certainly wish we had...
