Cafe Balboa — Restaurant in Fall River

In Short: cakes not ready for pickup, melted and slid into a mess.

I ordered two cakes and cakeletts (cupcakes) for a baby shower. The manager was very thorough and attentive when ordering.

The day of the event the cakes were not ready for pickup which led to me being late to the event.

Due to them not being ready, the manager informed me that he was not able to slightly freeze them like they normally do for transport. The cakes slid and melted on the 20 minute drive to the location. They were an embarrassment to put out on the dessert table.

Furthermore, the cakes being late led to them not being decorated even remotely how we discussed. We talked muted pinks and gold and I ended up with a white cake with chocolate shavings on top that melted into a puddle.

They have cockroaches. Enough said but to explicate, I started as a customer, loved the food, realized they were hiring & applied. There was a lot of gossip & weird rules about not being friends with coworkers but I didn’t care because the owner seemed like a nice guy & the food was great. Eventually I started to notice that not only was our pay being messed with (electronic tips missing from the barista’s checks, hours missing from mine) but that there appeared to be cockroach droppings behind the things I would deep clean. One morning I came in to bake & a cockroach landed in my hair as I pulled out a tray from above the oven. I walked right out. So please, I get that the food is good, but stop eating it before you get sick. I tried to report to Board of Health & they never got back to me, so meanwhile this cafe is serving you guys...

Really wanted to like this cafe but the coffee was very bitter I got the crème brûlée latte which had zero flavoring not to mention the cup was filled 3/4 of the way. Next was my avocado “toast” which was NOT toasted and the avocado was spread so thin you could see the bread. The egg on top was over cooked and very salty. My wife got the same coffee and it was no different than mine very bitter no flavor. Her breakfast sandwich was very salty as well and her bacon wasn’t crispy as she asked. Her bolo had a lemon flavor which she found odd because we’ve never had lemon flavored bolos and she dislikes lemon. She ordered a hash brown and it was salty...
