Deserves a Michelin star. Michelin, do you come to Virginia? The menu is simple and what they do best. This is a dumpling specialist. The dumpling skins taste homemade home rolled. I came here for a soup dumpling craving specifically and also ordered the pork shrimp and chive dumplings (lavender, pan fried) but left discovering the must try lemongrass chicken dumplings. The dipping sauce is great too, they mix in a little zingy flavor into the soy sauce just the way I like it. The chive dumplings taste just like my mom's homemade dumplings. The soup dumplings hit the spot, even the next day reheated as we got takeout. Payment is touchless. Interior is very clean. There is construction in the front of the strip mall, so it's hard to see at first if it's your first time. There are a few tables for indoor seating available. Will be back!! Thank you!!
Edit: Construction is over, nice outdoor seating. Have been back many times and I don’t even live in VA.
For anyone complaining about frozen aspects or alleged frozen dumplings detracting from deliciousness, a) who cares? And b) maybe you’ve never made dumplings before. Critics, I guess you’ve never made a single dumpling or you don’t know what authentic dumplings are supposed to taste like or maybe you don’t like food. You would have to to really understand what this resto does for people day in and day out, and maybe just try being kind. If you want to have dumplings ready within 15 min for hungry people, you premake (which takes a lot of time) and freeze them and then cook when ready to eat. Triple boil or pan fry. My mom makes me dumplings and they are frozen without being cooked. That’s key. Then it tastes great when I’m ready to cook them. It’s a very subtle but important difference than say frozen dumplings at Trader Joe’s that are cooked and then frozen and then reheated, which is also good, nothing wrong with that either but you can definitely taste the difference. If you expect them freshly wrapped every time that would take way longer than you’d be willing to wait. The people making dumplings are making these all by hand and the skins for the dumplings are handmade and hand rolled. I used to assist with making dumplings at home and it is very labor intensive and that’s why I love coming here because they do all the hard work and the results are better than what I could do at home.
For homemade dumplings and amazing flavors, the prices are more than fair because I can see you’re spending on quality ingredients and responsible hygienic packaging for your clientele.
Thank you so much for sharing your dumpling recipes with the world. You offer creative new flavor profiles as well as the classics. You guys are doing a great job...
Read moreWe got a large takeout order from Tasty Dumpling for my partner's birthday. That's all they wanted..dumplings. We ordered almost the whole menu. The dumplings were ready right on time; we called the order in the night before.
Tasty Dumpling lives up to its name! My favorites were the chicken dumplings, both lemongrass & basil. Powerful flavors, but delicately handled. The tofu dumplings were surprisingly tasty - whoever made that recipe knows how to use seasoning. My partner liked everything - yay! But the ones he liked best were the pork with lotus root, which had a pop of spice, the kimchee dumplings & the pan-fried beef bao.
My advice if you are getting a party-sized order from Tasty Dumpling is:
*call the night before you plan on picking up & set a pickup time
*have your order planned in advance
*consider getting a mix of fried & steamed dumplings to try different textures. I usually get the veggie & chicken varieties pan-fried, & beef & pork steamed.
*get different types of dumplings, it's fun to pick & choose - they have a few vegetarian options
*don't forget they give a 10% discount for over 100 pieces/individual dumplings
*make sure to get both spicy & mild dipping sauces, &
be on time for pickup. Dumplings are kinda fragile & have a short optimal shelf life. Even using an insulated bag I wouldn't drive these more than 10 - 15 minutes away.
If you're in the area, consider a dumplingfest for your next supper party. Tasty Dumpling no longer has salad, so make a veggie side dish if you want one, & then give in to bite-size parcels of delightful fillings being your main dish. Made fresh, carefully packaged, 10/10, would order...

Okay I need to calm down and tell you about this place.
Saw this place passing by Falls Church and wanted to try this so took a friend out here.
Upon entering it is a pretty simple place. More geared towards take out but you can definitely sit there and eat. The whole place is run by a couple. If you don’t know what a couple is it is 2 people who are in a romantic relationship. Yes just 2 people.
The whole place is clean and I would love to come here work from here and eat dumplings all day.
Okay back to the review. I ordered 4 different types of dumplings and my LORD!!! I am in love with this place.
Pan Fried Shrimp Dumplings were amazing. Recommend eating them after a little wait because they were scorching hot. The crust on them was perfect. The shrimp inside was beautiful.
Pan Fried Tofu Dumplings. They were really great. Similar crust to the ones above.
Steamed Beef and Jalapeno Dumplings were of a different color. Loved the jalapeños flavoring mixed with beef.
Steam Lemon Grass Chicken Dumplings were the best and the flavor was insane. Hands down ordering this and Basil Chicken Dumplings the next time.
This place is so simple and nice and the food is great that I love it.
