We arrived to Yamato at around 7:05pm and met friends there that already had a booth ready for us. We did not end up leaving the restaurant until 9:45pm. The service was absolutely terrible. The soup tastes like garbage water. The dressing on the salad was not good in our opinion either. The hibachi we got was decent, minus having to pull the tails off each piece of shrimp yourself, but not a huge deal. However, there were 6 of us dinig and 5 of us got our food after we had to ask 3 times if we were going to get our food any time soon as there had been several guests come in, eat, and leave while we were still waiting. As the 5 others got their food, I did not get mine. The waitress never apologized or even noticed until she came and asked how the food was and I said, "I have no idea because I haven't gotten mine." Turns out, they hadn't even made mine. I don't know if she didn't put it in or what. Once we finished our meals, we asked for two boxes and the checks split, 2 on one, 4 on the other. We also complained about my meal being brought WAY after everyone elses causing them to have to sit and wait for me to eat (I said I'd just take it home but my family/friends insisted I go ahead and eat there). After watching her walk around the dining room, cleaning tables, and avoiding eye contact with us as we said "Ma'am?" several times, we finally got another waitresses attention to get our checks and boxes. Our initial waitress then brought those but didn't seperate the checks. When asked if they could do something about my meal being brought out well over 20 minutes after everyone elses, they told us they could only take 15% off our bill and were not allowed to do anything further. This had to be absolutely the worst dining experience we have ever had. We will not be returning there, ever. Horrible service and hospitality combined with less than...
Read moreKnoxville is lacking in exciting, fresh food culture, sigh. I was excited that this was opening at Turkey Creek and I had high hopes for good ramen. I will admit that I'm quite surprised at the 4.9 rating so far. When you first walk in, it is apparent that they took the old worn out Newk's and did very little (if anything) to update it or clean it. Floors felt greasy, baseboards were missing, bad paint, tables and chairs are junky. The little staff that they do have seems scattered and disorganized. I watched the woman making the poke bowls drop two condiment bottles on the floor and then pick them up and put them right back without cleaning them. I also saw our waiter rearrange another table's food on the plate with his bare hands and then take it to the table. The pork bun dough was too thick and pasty, it should be light and delicate. The ramen was mediocre at best, not a lot of flavor in the broth and the noodles looked like they came right out of a cheap package. You want the broth to be salty, savory and umami and it was definitely not that. The pork was good and had good flavor. My husband had the hibachi chicken which was overcooked (probably also pre-cooked) and it was very dry. The salad he received before the hibachi had no dressing and we think the dressing was in an unlabeled bottle on the table which seems unsanitary. Still not sure if it was actually dressing. After dinner we had to ask someone to cash us out. Not a great experience and we probably won't go back. The quest for great food in...

My family of 4 dined on a thursday night and were seated right away. The hostess took the time to explain the menu and asked us if we had questions. Our server, who was busily attending to many other tables, took the time to stop by and acknowledge us and tell us he was sorry for the wait and would be with us very soon, which he was.
He quickly got the kids’ bubble tea started and came back to collect our orders. The meal was well-paced, with our appetizers arriving at regular intervals, giving us time to enjoy each one. We tried the pork buns (ah-Mazing!) Japanese spring rolls and edamame.
For our entrees, I got the spicy miso based ramen with shrimp. So full of flavor! My son ordered the chicken and steak hibachi and was in Love. My fella got the vegan ramen base with tofu and was very impressed with the flavor profile.
The waitstaff is worth mentioning again. They were all working so hard, not goofing off or checking phones. They really seem to take their jobs seriously. In the past 5-7 years, the customer service in knoxville has taken a nose dive and I’m often frustrated when going out to spend my hard earned money, only to be treated poorly and still have a inadequate server with their hand out. I digress…
Any way, thank you to the whole staff of Yamato for the...
