When you first enter the building, the noise level hits you in the face like a baseball bat. There is no noise absorbing anything, and the design of the space is quite cacophonic. You step up to the hostess station and ask for a table. Before you can even finish your sentence, Christina asks for your name and phone number. Why the phone number, especially if there is no waiting? I don't even give my phone number out on the fourth date, why would I give it to her? I was saved by Susana, a beautiful Hispanic waitress who greatly took care of me for the duration of my meal. Susana showed me to my table and brought me a pitcher of black coffee, silverware, and the menus. I couldn't hear my thoughts the noise was so annoying. The whole ambiance was off. Who wants that noise for breakfast? It felt like being in a crowded train station, with people walking all over the place. I like my breakfast to be in a relaxing and quite atmosphere; so, if you are like me, avoid this place. I started looking at the menu and it was so bougee and Gen Z liberal that I almost walked out. What happened to scrambled eggs, meat side, and hash browns? I settled for the simplest omelet, the ham and Gruyere with a side of potatoes. Let me tell you what I was served, instead.
The omelet was describes as being made with cage-free eggs, but that is a lie. My omelet was made with industrial liquid eggs that hadn't seen a pinch of salt or pepper since their conception. The ham was a wad of think sliced ham folded in half and just stuffed into the flavorless omelet, as you can see from the picture I am sharing. The Gruyere? A slice of Swiss cheese on top of the omelet. No other cheese inside, not shredded, not cubed, not sliced... nada. The potatoes were the only thing with some flavor, but half were very hard (raw) and half were soft (cooked). The toast was awful. One of those brown breads with seeds in it that tasted like cardboard. It came without any jelly, just fake butter. The price of this great meal? $18.12
The best part was Susana! She checked on me often, and was very polite.
If you want a great American breakfast, go to M&D Pancakes on Yadkin. It is an old diner, nothing fancy, but it is quiet, and the omelets...
Read moreMixed reviews regarding the food and the ability to social distance at this First Watch, but great reviews regarding the service and hospitality. I arrived about 10:30am and the place was packed. I left my phone number for a text back regarding the status of my table. I asked the hostess if I had time to walk to the stores across the street and she emphasized that I definitely would have time. And she was correct. It took about an hour for a table for one to become available. I was sat outside on their open, but filled to capacity patio. I took in the cool breeze as I sipped on my super sweet beet juice. I watched as many people came in, waited and waited outside and inside for a table. There is no way that people were keeping six feet a part and it made me nervous and cautious regarding staying too long.
My waitress was nice and informed me that with their trifecta I could get French toast instead of a Pancake, so I went with this. What was put in front of me just a few minutes later was one lonely chicken sausage and barely an egg and a half of two scrambled eggs. I was not impressed by either of those. But, thankfully the French toast did its best to impress with warm syrup and butter. It went down oh so well. But, I was left a little disappointed in the overall food and presentation. Normally I leave so satisfied after First Watch and this was not one of those times. I think the combination of overcrowding, lack luster seasoning, and small portions just made me unsatisfied. I may try again in the new year and earlier in the day as the...
Read moreFirst visit. Early Saturday morning equals No wait! Big win when you have a 7 year old. Nice booth (recommend hooks for coats on post.) The temperature inside the restaurant is comfortable. The seating not so much but it’s not meant for you to stay too long (biggest issue with restaurants in general focused on turnover.) The waiter was very welcoming and speedy. Coffee ready at hand! The menu is loaded with options. This is a healthy restaurant do not come here looking for southern comfort food. We need more of these restaurants. Food was delivered in good time. My son hand the multigrain pancakes and gave them a 100 stars! Although he said the bacon was terrible. Extremely overcooked for his preference. I had eggs Benedict they were ok. My first complaint is one egg was all yolk, I like the egg white as well. Issue two the use of sliced ham was too much. I would prefer a more solid thick slice versus a deli style slicing. I’m more of a Canadian bacon fan. The service was fantastic. If the restaurant wants to be recognized as a healthy eating location I recommend making the servings per individual. For example today the kid pancake today was adult size and if the eggs Benedict order today was split for two then it would only cost 6 per order and serve two people just right (healthy eating folks.) I say this as I split my entree in half and my daughter ate it after swim practice. I’m not sold on the bill being brought to the table and I have to go pay...
