Family went for dinner - 4 people with drinks cost $60.
Food: (pictured) I got the cod and shrimp with coleslaw and fries. The cod was great, well fried good flavor. Not too greasy. Fresh. Shrimp was good - it's popcorn shrimp, can't complain. The hushpuppies were good. The fries, meh. I mean, they're mass produced fries. They were cooked properly, but not salted. And the coleslaw had gone sour. :(
He had the whiting and shrimp with collards and fries. The collards were AMAZING. Most places mix mustards in with their collards - this place did not. Their collards greens were rich and flavorful.
Kids had shrimp and a chicken sandwich. No complaints there.
The food got a 4/5 because the collards were the ONLY thing that was seasoned. Every single thing served was salt free and boy did it need it. Those fried goods go put the frier, to the box. You better add salt as soon as you get it, otherwise you're SOL.
Service: there was nothing jumping out as bad. For a counter-service establishment, expectations were met.
Atmosphere: this place was clearly started in the 80s/90s seafood restaurant timeline. Lol. It holds the vibe. My only complaint is that the condiments provided hadn't been refilled in forever, so every salt shaker was out, ketchup for the kids was low, napkins were not to be found. They did have malt vinegar, so point there. You need to request tartar and cocktail sauce, but they have no issue giving it to you.
We'd come back. It's homey, decent food with...
Read moreI was in the mood for seafood so I decided to stop here while driving by. As I waited for my food to be heated up, an old ogre dressed as if it shouldn't be in the kitchen (sanitary reasons) came from the back, walked up to me, and stared at me as if I wasn't welcome. I said hello to it but she didn't respond. I'm not sure why this woman? treated me this way as I just paid her daughter money in exchange for food.
I did not visit this establishment to be treated like there was a sign on the door stating, 'no ni_____ allowed' however, if at least there were one I wouldn't have stopped by to see what the place was about.
Well, now I know.
The food was ok, nothing was handmade or fresh. Then again, I only ate a few bites then threw it in the trash since I didn't want to eat the cooking from this family of ignorance.
The young lady that first took my order was patient, polite and very helpful. She didn't look like the older woman or the old ogre so I assume she wasn't related but either way, I can note that she was nice.
As a business owner that loves to do business with local owned companies, I would NEVER ever come back to this place. Unnecessary hostility and subpar food.
By the way, go to Straight Drop for mouth watering seafood in the area. For greasy premade fried seafood, go to the...
Read moreI do thoroughly enjoy the food, they do maintain some consistency but when they are busy you MUST check your food before leaving. So far out of the last 15 times I've been I have received two orders that were sloppily prepared. The first time the fish was very greasy and they replaced the entire plate, second time I went I ordered the collard greens as a side. My fish was soggy and the collard greens were sour and frankly poorly made. When I brought it to the female managers attention she told me I was incorrect because she personally made the greens, which I know were not freshly made that day as she claimed, and they were good and that they make all fish to order. I told her that still doesn't change the fact that my fish was soggy but she would not replace it. I have frequented the place sometimes two-three times in one day! Ive come there enough for her to know my face and my order but it was made apparent to me that the customer does not come first at this place of business and they have lost a valued customer. The country fish fry is two doors down the road and they're pricing is almost the same but...
