I had always gone to the Fort Wright location until they recently closed, I knew of this location and decided to give them a try since I was left craving their subs. My first visit was fine, it was different from what I was accustomed to but that can be expected as these both seemed to be pretty differently run franchises. I definitely liked all the support they seem to show for local fire/police and military.
My latest visit was kind of a put off though. I ordered a whole Italian sandwich, which is all I ever get. Someone freshly sliced all the meats and cheeses and arranged them ready for the bread as they normally do. Then the young girl who would be finishing and dressing my sandwich took a fresh loaf of bread out and put it in the toaster which I assumed was for me as that is normally what they do, tasty sub coming right up! Then she moved some empty plastic bags out of the way on the make-line to reveal a couple of bread halves that hadn’t been used and held them up together, I guess deciding if they were adequate for a whole sub, normally a whole sub is made…whole, whatever. Without toasting the bread she then put the meat for my sub on the halves before removing it, starting to cut it with a knife, and ultimately tearing it apart by hand to fit it on each side which just seemed kind of gross, and she put most of the meat/cheese on one side. I considered asking for a different sandwich but didn’t want to be difficult, in retrospect I should have. I asked for some standard toppings which I felt she was very light on and she tried to put two slices of tomato on one half and one slice on the other, requiring me to request the final slice… She wrapped up the sub and I left.
I now get the whole toaster step, as the bread was very stale and ruined the whole sandwich. Normally I find their bread to be one of the best parts, there was also hardly any lettuce or oil and vinegar, it was shredded lettuce and I could count on two hands how many pieces of lettuce were in the sub.
This was just not an experience I would expect from a good sub shop. I might give them another try,...
Read moreIf you're looking for a great Sandwich shop, stop going to those Quiznos, Subways type shops and head straight to this locally owned Substation III !!! Our family has been eating here for years and there's a good reason why. There food is made fresh, sliced right in front of you. You don't get just a few slivers of meat and cheese they give you a large amount. (The pic with the baggie is a 1/2 side of meat. I wish you could see how much meat is on that plate! It was enough for my 2 little dogs for 2 days!!)
I ordered the turkey and cheese on Pretzel bread. Their Pretzel bread is to die for, notice how much meat is piled up on the sandwich...unreal! NO OTHER sandwich shop gives you this much food for the price you pay. I also ordered the fries which i can't pass up when I go. They have the best fries ever. And lastly, the staff, I have never EVER had a bad experience here. Everyone who works here really seems to enjoy their job and what they do. Nowadays, that's a rarity! So next time you drive by Dream Street in Florence and you're craving a sub sandwich or just want to try something different give Substation II a try. You will...
Read moreI was in earlier today and ordered the Super Special from the cashier’s recommendation. It was amazing and the staff was top notch. There was a blonde woman and her kid who had an incident with the staff. I couldn’t help but overhear the conversation. She claimed an employee called her son a “lady” and demanded a refund. The employee apologized after the clear mistake and the manager came up to offer the refund apologizing for the misunderstanding. This woman continued to call the employee obscene things. She continued to drop F bombs to the manager while her son kept saying “stop mom please.” The manager tried to calm her down but with a few people in the dining room, including myself, and her I’d say 8 year old son, she kept using profane language toward the manager. If I were the manager I’d have threatened with police removal as well, at the LEAST. And yet, the staff STILL refunded her money. I went up to the counter after the fact and made sure they were all okay after that. They did everything right in my opinion. That lady just wanted a free meal. I’ll...
