I called about 1pm and left a message to make a reservation. Since no one answered, I made a reservation online. They called me back about 4pm to say they could not accommodate another reservation for that night (they did offer the following day), but when I said I'd done it online earlier they were ok with it. They did say they had tried to block off those times, but saw what time I put in the request. The parking for the restaurant was very limited, but we got street parking very close. We took selfies with the giant metal lighthouse outside the entrance. There was a short steep set of stairs with handrails to the entrance, so heads up if you have mobility issues. The atmosphere was a cozy speakeasy vibe. There was only one server for the entire place, and he was hustling. The real bottleneck seemed to be the kitchen. From my seat, I could see into the kitchen and could tell they were hustling as well, so I only assume between that and the intentionally empty tables, they were short staffed. The food:- the bad: it took forever. 3 tiny scallops for $20 was overpriced for an appetizer. My partner found her polenta runny/inconsistent/not flavorful and not much meat on the short rib for the price. There were 3 dessert choices that were not very appealing but were choices that could be made ahead of time, so I understand why they were chosen (sorbet, panna cotta, and tiramisu). the good: The scallops were delicious and clearly better quality than I am used to because the were so soft and tender. My sous vide fillet mignon was amazing. I mean truly amazing. Because of digestive issues, I don't usually eat red meat. However I knew sous vide made things more tender so I tried it. It was my first steak in 15 years, and I will remember it for another 15. I did ask for the gorgonzola sauce on the side, and I'm glad I did because it just was not my favorite flavor. It did mean the croquets had less flavor, but their texture was perfection. I even liked the spinach and I'm not usually a fan. Also, the quantity of the meat made it feel well worth the price tag. I ordered a peach/berry? cider that was one of the best ciders in recent memory. Overall,...
Read moreMy wife and I swung into the Waterfront Depot for dinner tonight but there was an hour wait. I suggested The Greenroom as an option, which I had read about several months ago and was intrigued.
Sunday dinner is often a mixed bag when eating out, so I had moderate expectations. But we settled in and ordered the Seasonal Salad and soup, along with a glass of Bordeaux and Pinot Noir. My wife ordered the Braised Rabbit Pappardelle and I ordered Braised Short Ribs as mains.
My wife and I have a long history of sharing meals—28 years of history. I'm trying to remember the last time she refused to share. She absolutely loved the Pappardelle, and my braised ribs were incredible.
Other places in town may have the view or the buzz, but no one compares if you're looking for a truly exquisite dining experience. Like one of the other reviewers, if I only had the dishes to go on, I would think I were in a large city enjoying an incredible meal. All the better than I'm in Florence and don't have to deal with crowds or pretentious environs.
Well done Chef Wiley! You and your staff won over a couple new...
Read moreExcellent food, unique experience. Different from anything else on the coast. Put your phone away, enjoy the company of your friends/significant others, and appreciate the artistry of the food. It's marginally more expensive than other offerings in town, but it is worth the price. Don't head here expecting to pound a ton of fried, greasy, pub-style foods; this is fine dining, and it is done exceptionally well. My wife and I tend to order an appetizer, a first course, and a second course (sometimes a dessert). When we do this, we tell the server we want to "split" everything and the chef plates each course in a half portion for each of us. It's fantastic and, for us, a little too much food. We come here twice a month.
The last time we went, we split an appetizer, each had our own pasta dish, each had a cocktail, and split a dessert and it was plenty for our stomachs. Cost about 80 bucks combined. Not bad at all for a unique date night opportunity.
Scallops are exquisite, mushroom tortelli delightful, and the filet mignon/fish of the day standouts. Come...
