Kyoto Hibachi & Sushi — Restaurant in Florham Park

Extremely RUDE & UNPROFESSIONAL. I made a reservation for a large party (more than 10 people) one week in advance. I was NEVER told there was a 90 minute table limit on the phone, nor upon arrival.

The hibachi chef was rude, he made a few comments such as "be quiet" in a harsh tone, shortly after he arrived & when he didn't even start to cook. We were celebrating my birthday, as well as my fiancé & I's engagement. 13 people were celebrating, of course we were talking??? No one was shouting or being loud, we were all adults over the age of 25.

After dinner, the hostess asked if we were ready for the cake (I brought a cake, which I stated on the phone when I made the reservation). We all said yes, we were ready. The hostess brings out the cake, everyone took pictures, sang, & I blew out the candles. The hostess bring out TINY plates, a knife & says I have to cut the cake myself. I was confused, I had been to hibachi places before for my birthday, the staff always cut the cake.

About two minutes later, while I am in the MIDDLE of cutting the FIRST slice of cake, a man comes over, who we presume is the manager. He tells us, in a HARSH tone, "you have 5 minutes to eat the cake." My group & I were shocked, & I asked him why do we have 5 minutes, we have a reservation & the staff knew we had a cake to cut for THIRTEEN people. The man says, "you have to leave, there is a limit for 90 minutes." This information was NEVER ADDRESSED TO US.

The man then brings the checks & MULTIPLE SMALL TAKEOUT pans for the cake. I had to ask FOUR times for the man to please bring out the big box that I brought my cake in.

Kyoto Hibachi & Sushi is a fantastic spot for family outings! We visited on a Saturday night with the whole family and two kids and had an amazing experience! Menu The menu has a great variety. The hibachi sets include salad, miso soup, fried rice, noodles, and mixed vegetables. We enjoyed the hibachi shrimp, chicken, steak, scallops, and lobster, all cooked perfectly. The sushi, like the eel avocado and crab stick rolls, was fresh and delicious. Service The service was friendly, fast, and attentive. Our waitress made excellent recommendations, ensuring we chose some of the best dishes on the menu. The hibachi chefs were incredibly skilled and entertaining, putting on a lively show that kept everyone, especially the kids, thrilled and engaged throughout the meal. Food The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The hibachi dishes were tasty and satisfying, but the sushi was outstanding!!! It was incredibly fresh and comparable to what I've had in Japan. Every bite was a delight! Cleanliness The setting was totally Japanese style, clean, comfortable, and family-friendly. Even the restrooms were spotless, adding to the overall positive experience. Went there today for the first time even though it's about 5 minutes from my house because of all the bad reviews that deterred me in the past. Gave it a shot and we really loved all the food, from the apps to the sushi and hibachi. We tip normal and did not experience the other tip-begging issues others described. Found the place nice, clean and we had great service. The only reason why I took off a star is because we ordered apps at the hibachi table the chef came out way too soon...we barely got to our apps. But on the other hand if you're starving and don't want apps that would have been ideal. It is not a show place by any means, but good fresh food is cooked in front of you. BYOB is nice since we like the wine we have at home. The prices were very reasonable and consistent with pricing at restaurants of that style/size. My husband, daughter and I each ordered the hibachi filet mignones (I added shrimp and hubby chicken) and they were excellent. My picky 3 year old said her meal was amazing...our waitress was on top of everything, more drinks etc. Service was quick, so if you're expecting a 2+ hour dinner experience this is not it.
