It's the absolute perfect (American style) gyro. Wonderful, soft pressed beef and lamb, warm and moist, not dry, and with a lovely flavor that's not overspiced. Tzatziki sauce is fabulous and they're happy to give you extra on the side if you love it like I do. I'm not even sure they charged me for that, but if they did that's fine because it's great.
Also in your gyro are fresh chopped onions, nice and thin to spread into the meat, and tomato slices, something you don't usually find in Greece but has become a staple here, so I'm used to them. Works out well in this gyro.
It would take paragraphs to describe the fluffiness of this pita within which rest all the ingredients. But let's just start with how perfectly it's wrapped. Nothing falls out. I know that some may consider this a bad sign or think that there is insufficient filling if it's not flowing out all over your hands. That is not the case here. There is tons of meat inside this gyro but it just so happens that the gyro is rolled so perfectly that it encompasses everything inside the sandwich and lets you eat it mostly without overflow, or at least manageable overflow, which is probably about the best you can hope for with a gyro.
The fries are just perfect as well. Meaty fries. And by that I mean nice thick potatoes with tasty insides and crispy outsides that were deep fried just perfectly and salted mildly. Some may want to add salt, but when they're hot and fresh I don't think it really needs another splash of salt.
We also got the wings and the fish, but let's start with the wings. Talk about deep fried just right. Again. What is with this place? How does a place get everything so hot and fresh and everything done just exactly right? Well, ANF does get it right. Everything. Just try the wings. Perfect scald on the breading of those "plain" wings we're just the right amount of seasoning in the breading and not so much breading as to drown the wing. And the big wings. Not those gigantic dinosaur things you find in supermarkets, but a good sized wing that is still attached together. And very good prices on the wings, just like the good prices on everything else.
Fish was grouper and was just fine. Fried just fine. Meaty, white firm fish inside and no overly fishy taste. Breading had just the right amount of cornmeal and was mostly flour, and just the way it ought to be. A couple of lemon wedges were included but not needed. Tartar sauce was in the bag. Not needed either.
Ordering a beverage? They're gigantic here and hold about 32 oz., and they're not expensive. Nothing is expensive here. Nothing at all is expensive here. Get their fountain-made pink lemonade for a nice experience that surely seems to be made with real lemon juice. And they have all the rest like diet Coke and such.
Look the gyro is about seven bucks without the fries and drink and under 10 with the fries and drink. I challenge you to go to a fast food place and get as much meat as is in that gyro on a burger or something equally boring for lower prices. You can't do it!
You cannot beat the value at this place and the taste is absolutely top-notch. I mean, I understand this is not the Parthenon restaurant on Halstead in Chicago, where I do enjoy the gyro meat slightly better, BUT, for Orlando and a quick bite at a fast place that makes orders fresh when you place them, you are simply not going to find a better gyro option in terms of taste or cost.
Total five-star place all the way around. Very polite. Very good service. Only thing to note is that you can't go in the dining room at night, you have to go through the drive-thru. We discovered that after walking up to the doors because we had seen others going in but it turned out it was about three dozen delivery drivers inside. Because this place is popular popular popular popular.
And why is it popular? Because it's the best!
I know some folks on the east side of town don't want to drive all the way over to West Colonial, but if it's night time (low traffic) and you're hankering for something really good,...
Read moreI used to like this place but they do not seem to care about Covid 19. I visited last night just to see the cashier wearing no MASK, and also bagging the food ! So those same hands are touching my bag, and my food trays. I looked even further inside and saw other employees actually fixing the food wearing with no mask, nor social distancing ? Everyone was working closely together. This restaurant cares more about the money versus practicing all measures to be safe and clean. (SERIOUSLY) ! The manager at the time did not care about my concerns he caught an attitude when I addressed this. Yes the food is normally good but at what cost ? They know other restaurants are closed late at night. They see the long line so they are going to feed you. Some people like myself care about being safe, not everyone is going to be ok with bad habits. I would rather starve or leave hungry before I eat from an establishment that could possibly cause me harm. They don't seem to care about food safety measures. The manager allows this ! That is bad I definitely don't trust the cleanliness of this restaurant. That is really gross to see a cashier handle cash then your food without washing hands, nor wearing a mask. But again nobody working was wearing a mask nor social distancing. Abraham and Riddah please do better ! Implement changes because we all need to be safe out here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took photos of these employees not wearing a mask but I will be kind enough...
Read moreLast night, I ordered for me and my sister. After waiting 30-40 mins in drive-thru, I was charged for a combo when I didn't ask for one. I took it anyway. I get all the way home and my order was missing my fries. Second time this has happened. I thought they would be apologetic as they were before, because I was a regular, but they were not. I asked for a refund and the front counter guy, who could barely speak English, had to get someone else. The man never apologized, was argumentative, and had a nasty attitude. His first excuse was, he told me, I (not them) forgot my fries (as if I made my meal myself). His second excuse was he just clocked in (I'm only asking for my money back while he's making excuses). Thirdly, he says, sarcastically, "if your refund was $1,000, I can give you that" (All the while, arguing with me as if he didn't want to give my money back). The order was messed up for $14 not $1,000 and no one asked for that much money over that amount to be refunded nor do I care how much money your restaurant makes (meanwhile, letting people know what type of money the register has at that moment. Just plain dumb). Unprofessional and ignorant. Not...
