Stopped in here for breakfast with an elderly lady friend. We took a seat at the back because the restaurant was freezing! (Why did we stay? We were hungry and the reviews were good.) The outside temperature was 46 degrees; as we were leaving we glanced at the thermostat and saw the management or owner had it set to 62 degrees! Explains why it was so cold. Our waiter, Nick, seemed very popular; a lot of regulars knew him by name. We ordered, my friend asking for a skillet with sausage and home fries. When it came, she got hash browns. It took a while to get Nick's attention, because he was on his cell phone, but he did come over and told her she had home fries. No, she insisted, these were hash browns, and she pointed to my plate. He told her there was very little difference but he'd remake the plate, it would just be the same. We got a glance at the order he'd put in and sure enough, he'd written down "hash browns." So, asked them to remake the order, which they did. Without the sausage. By then we were so chilled that it wasn't worth discussing the cold toast we'd been served (twice, in her case), the lack of anyone checking our table to make sure things were now good, or the missing sausages. We just paid and left. Outside of the poor service - imagine a waiter insisting what you have on your plate is something else when you can see it right there! - and the lack of attention from either Nick or the woman there throughout the meal - everything was loaded with grease. I think perhaps the regulars know what to order, but our omelet and skillet plates were not it. Unfortunate, because it looked like an old fashioned breakfast place we'd...
Read moreWe found this place on a recent trip to Bradenton. We have a condo there and frequently visit it in the winter. We ate here on a Saturday and had great service and delicious food. The waitress was attentive and made sure we had everything that we needed. The eggs were done just right and the potatoes were nice and crispy. We decided to go again the next day. The food was still good but the service was lacking. There was just one old man waiting tables and he was not able to handle the rush. We waited a long time just for menus and water. We finally ordered and quickly received our food but we didn't have any utensils to eat with. I got up to get them. The waiter never returned to check on us, never refilled our empty water glasses, and never gave us our check. They need more help on the weekends. There was a lady helping to clear tables but she didn't seem to be helping out any other way. She could have helped refill coffee, give menus to tables, and refilled water. When I asked her for the check she just pointed to the waiter. I want this place to succeed, they just need to train their staff a little better. Like I said the food is good. We will return, just probably not...
Read moreConsistently delicious! I told the boss I was in town visiting in January and that my family said it was the best breakfast place around. I was impressed that he took the time to come out from the kitchen to meet me and talk. Cesar cooks and preps all of the dishes. I met a few of the regulars at the counter and they all have different faves. I went with a carnitas omelette and the fruit bowl as the side. Wow! I've been there at least 10 times over the past few months, scouting the area for a permanent move. Same delicious food every time. I noticed they have won 2 awards since January and I'm not surprised! I don't know why anyone would complain about the staff, they all show me love every time. Even the regulars remembered my name when I returned. It's not just a Cafe, it's like a breakfast and lunch parlor! I drive 1200 miles to go there. Easy to miss,...
