Calypso's — Restaurant in Florida

I feel like you gotta understand what makes this place so great before knowing if it is for you. This is gonna be one of those "hole in the wall" type places that everyone needs to experience. Not too many places to park and not too many places to sit, not saying it is a bad thing though...just don't expect a big place or look for one because you will miss it. Also, it is a cash only establishment which is no bother to me personally, but I feel you should be prepared before going there. Not everyone carries cash these days. To my understanding, it was the woman who owned this place that served us and cooked our food. To me, this is the epitome of keys living! She knows everything about the food she serves and everyone in the area. She made our tacos with love, which everyone knows is the best ingredient! Where else can you order a tuna taco and get a freaking tuna steak inside cooked perfectly?!?! Honestly, it really was that good. Also, she made the seasoned and cooked the shrimp perfectly. The tacos were killer all the way, but we definitely favored the shrimp and tuna tacos over other other things we tried. The lemonade is out of this world. It was not too sweet and just the right amount of tartness you should be after. If you can honestly try it and not give her respect for making it the way she does then just stay home. I'm not even a big lemonade fan, but I would order that every single time. Great food. Great conversation. Great little place to stop in and grab a bite...or at least tacos and lemonade. Don't just take my word for it, go there and see...

It is an old run-down hole in the wall. It's got a single half deaf old hippie running the whole thing front of the house and back of the house.

There's no air conditioning just fans, and they don't take credit cards cash only.

With that being said if you skip this place you're a fool.

I had the soup and the Cobra cheesesteak. The soup came out in a paper bowl with a plastic spoon and every single bite was an explosion of absolute delectable flavor. I could eat an entire pot of that soup by itself easily.

The Cheesesteak was beautifully cooked and absolutely packed full of fresh ingredients in some sort of delicious sauce.

If you're looking for ritzy fine dining this is not the place. If you're looking for excellently prepared food at a reasonable cost and you're okay with running to the ATM first you will be absolutely thrilled by every bite you take here.

Dude. This place is AMAZING and must for Your keys trip doesn't matter where u are going u have to go and try their tuna or shrimp tacos. By far the best I've ever had and I've had them all over the country. I would recommend this place to anyone who visits the keys. It def has this backyard cafe style feel with a handwritten index card menu but let me tell you!!! Absolutely delicious 😋 I was lucky enough to have friends familiar with it already who took me. Because it is hard to see from the road with a very subtle sign, I doubt I would've seen it driving by. Also, a very small intimate setting with limited seating. The chef, whom I believe is also the owner is an amazing spirit and a sweet lady working also hit my heart with our wonderful conversation. All 5 of us felt like we were in a family member's home.
