I recently had the pleasure of dining at Casa Masa in Sarasota, and I must say it was an exceptional culinary experience. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the stage for what turned out to be an extraordinary meal.
The star of the show at Casa Masa is undoubtedly the tacos. My wife and I had the opportunity to try several different varieties, and each one was a true delight for the taste buds. The tacos were not only beautifully presented but also bursting with fresh and vibrant flavors. From the tender and juicy meats to the perfectly balanced toppings and housemade salsas, every bite was a delightful explosion of taste.
One of the things that impressed us the most was the attention to detail in the preparation of each taco. The ingredients were clearly of the highest quality, and it was evident that care and skill went into crafting each taco. Whether it was the succulent carnitas, the flavorful barbacoa, or the mouthwatering vegetarian options, every taco showcased the chef's dedication to creating a memorable dining experience.
In addition to the outstanding tacos, Casa Masa offers a range of other Mexican specialties that are equally impressive. The menu features a variety of appetizers, such as flavorful guacamole and crispy, freshly made tortilla chips, which make for the perfect start to your meal. The selection of entrees and sides is equally enticing, with options like quesadillas and Tlayuditas (Mexican pizza) that will satisfy even the most discerning palate.
The service at Casa Masa was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall enjoyment of our dining experience. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations when asked. They were also attentive to our needs throughout the meal, ensuring that we had everything we needed to fully savor and enjoy our tacos.
The ambiance of Casa Masa is warm and inviting, with a vibrant and colorful decor that transports you to a hip taco spot in Mexico. The restaurant's lively atmosphere, combined with its attentive service, creates a welcoming space where you can relax and indulge in the flavors of authentic Mexican cuisine.
In conclusion, Casa Masa is a true gem in the culinary landscape of Sarasota. The fresh and flavorful tacos, along with the wide range of Mexican specialties, showcase the chef's dedication to quality and taste. The attentive service and inviting ambiance further elevate the dining experience, making Casa Masa a must-visit destination for anyone craving authentic and delicious Mexican cuisine. Read moreThe moment I have waited for all week. Taco Tuesday! Armed with multiple recommendations for, Casa Masa, I went to investigate.
You were all correct. At this point in my humble opinion, "Casa Masa", is the reigning champion and looking for competition.
I am a certified taco hunter. I met with multiple local certified taco hunters in last week to identify the top hunting grounds for tacos in the city of Sarasota.
Without question Casa Masa was the most recommended in my local Sarasota foody group. So, needless to say, I had to check it out.
I was met by Robert de Silvio the creator of Casa Masa. He told me that he went to Oaxaca Mexico fell in love with the food and decided that he would bring it back here so that's what he's done.
He gets blue corn flown in from Oaxaca weekly along with a special cheese that they have in Oaxaca he getss imported in small batches to himself. He has a garlic sauce that is fermented (??) And is fantastic! He has a 6 Chile sauce with sesame seed, peanut oil etc...blend that is unique called, "Macho Salsa".
I had the birria tacos which were made with lamb. In Mexico birria tacos are made Goat, so this by far surpassed any expectations from the U.S..
Birria made from Lamb, Duck Carnitas, Octopus, Pork Carnitas, Lengua (tongue). They were all good. The Octopus was tender and light. Heart was put into all the Tacos.
Look I won't tell you anymore how good these tacos are just look at the reviews and just know that they're accurate. This is, at this point in time, the reigning champion of tacos, in my humble opinion, in the city of Sarasota!
Robert Dasilvia, the creator of this concept, said he is expanding to a 2500 SQ ft...

There's quite literally nowhere else in srq that makes their own blue corn tortillas daily.
Their al pastor is modernized compared to the traditional al pastor you would get elsewhere.
The pork is not crumbly and dry, instead, they're juicy, moist pieces that are charred and smokey.
The same can be said for the pineapple slices. Instead of being just a long fresh slice, the pineapple is treated similarly to the pork, with it being charred, smoky and cubed. This ensures each and every bite is a balanced one with sweet, savory, and umami elements.
I also had the birria tacos, which in my opinion are the best as well in srq. It's easier to eat, comes full and juicy with consome, and is HOT.
Alot of tacos spots don't have a good temp control imo. It's often dry, crumbly, hard and lukewarm.
Sauces are also made in house. I tried their most mild to experience the flavors than the spice. The flavors were a perfect accompaniment to the tacos as it didnt overpower the flavor of the taco or tortilla - it complimented it perfectly.
What struck me by surprise about the sauces the most, was the consistency. It was thicker compared to most watery sauces. This allowed it to not drip everywhere while eating and coat my palate as well as the taco perfectly.
To wrap up, Casa Mass understands a key point when it comes to tacos. The tortilla is the main ingredient & the star of the show.
Similar to sushi, the rice is the most important part, not the fish.
Casa Masa understands this element of tacos and for that - they earn my vote in being the best taqueria in Sarasota.
