Darumas in Sarasota is an absolute gem that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy ambiance that immediately made me feel at home. The traditional Japanese decor and elegant setting set the perfect tone for an authentic dining experience. The restaurant’s attention to detail and cleanliness were remarkable, creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere. Now, let’s talk about the food. Wow! The menu at Darumas offers a delightful array of Japanese dishes, each crafted with precision and bursting with flavor. Their sushi selection was a standout, featuring fresh and beautifully presented rolls that were a joy to savor. The melt-in-your-mouth sashimi was equally impressive, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to using high-quality ingredients. I was also delighted by their teppanyaki experience. The skilled chefs put on an entertaining show while preparing the dishes right in front of us. The flavors of the teppanyaki dishes were divine, and the generous portions left us more than satisfied. The service was top-notch throughout the evening. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to provide recommendations based on our preferences. The attention to customer satisfaction was evident in every aspect of our dining experience. The manager came by to check on us, ensuring that everything met our expectations. Darumas is an excellent choice for a special occasion or a memorable night out. The combination of delicious food, exceptional service, and a charming ambiance make it a must-visit destination for anyone looking to indulge in the finest Japanese cuisine in Sarasota. Overall, my visit to Darumas was an absolute delight, and I can’t wait to return for another exceptional dining experience.

First off, we are long time patrons of Daruma (the old one at fruitville Rd) and always went there for our birthdays. It has warm comfortable atmosphere with great food and decent pricing . However, this new one in the landings in my opinion isn't as enjoyable. Beautiful food. And fun atmosphere; the hibachi tables are perfect for birthday celebrations. Service was really good they are right on it, ( as they took our dishes before we're even finished!), the only complaint was the exhorbitant price of drinks, apps dinner etc. Just the 2 of us paid over 150 for a no frills (but great hibachi chef) dinner where we each had one drink, shared one app , and shared one dessert. Also note an 18%gratuity is automatically included! Nice for special occasion, but too expensive for a weekend meal out. Here's a photo of one our dishes and the menu.

We went for my son’s birthday. Everyone had a fun time, and even though we were seated by a larger family we didn’t know, that didn’t detract. Our chef was fun and energetic. He spent a lot of his time bantering with the attractive young ladies on the other side (completely innocently - don’t take it the wrong way) and that was fine. Don’t come for a quiet private meal. It’s noisy and fun and full of laughter and conversation. The only reason I gave four stars instead of 5 was because the steak we ordered medium rare was clearly medium at best. It was anguishing to watch it cook on beyond the best point. My son’s fish (grouper) wasn’t all that good either. I was *really* looking forward to that steak. The waitstaff was fast and on point.

Update “ Manager Ron called me and I don’t know why he called me, he was so rude and aggressive talking. I found out he was also there when all of this mess happened and he didn’t do anything to fix it. In the end he hung up the phone on me without solve any problems. SO DISRESPECTFUL PERSON. It’s so clear why this location is that bad. If the general manager that rude and unprofessional what we expect from his staff. Tamiami trail location didn’t deserve even one star. Worse place and worse staff.”

My family and I have been long time costumers at Darumas. For the first time ever we had an extremely awful experience tonight. We went to the daruma’s located at 4910 S Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231

This was a celebration for my daughter’s birthday which has become a tradition for our family as we celebrate her birthday here yearly. We love to enjoy the show provided by the chef which adds fun to a good dinner and is a main reason we continue to come back.

Tonight we were sat at a table with another family who has a child with a seafood allergies. This instantly cause confused among management, the chef, and the waiter around. No one knew what to do or how to handle the situation. The chef began to cook the seafood and the other family freaked out due to the seafood being cooked at the same area as all the other food.

Instantly the chef was flustered and angry, the entertainment portion of our dinner ended our food was quickly cooked, given to us, and the chef left right away out of anger. I’m doing so, our orders were incompletely and/or wrong.

My daughter went to speak with the manager to ensure it was communicated that our dinner experience was ruined due to the lack of knowledge on how to deal with the situation. The answer to this was “we don’t guarantee a show just food.”

This was an unacceptable and unprofessional answer to our complaint. I spoke with another manager named Mike, I explained that my daughter’s birthday dinner has been ruined and that we are disappointed with the amount of things that have gone horribly wrong and to that the manager blamed everything on our waiter while doing absolutely nothing to fix the situation.

In all: we didn’t get the right food that was ordered. we were missing portions of food. we didn’t get the entertainment provided and expected during dinner. The waiter lost my husband’s card at the end

After all of this we ended up not finishing our food and leaving. The entire dinner was an absolute mess nothing was done correctly and our complaints were met with rudest, especially by manager Mike.

I’m asking for a full refund. After a disaster of an experience I paid $210 for a terrible night filled with angry people and confused staff on a day meant for celebration.

The managers were unprofessional and the staff was not trained to deal with...

We went to DaRuMa in The Landings to celebrate two birthdays when we got there we were told by Ron, the rude manager that we were going to be charged $25 for each cake, I asked why we were not informed of this and he said I should have told the person on the phone when I made the reservation. I told him this was a ridiculous charge for birthday cakes, he said it's the same as a cork fee I said but I'm not bringing alcohol, I'm bringing a birthday cake. He went on to say that they lose Revenue because they could sell us desserts, I told him we never ordered desserts there so they can't lose something they never had. Then he said he would make an exception and only charge for one cake. I did not want to pay it but my husband insisted since you were there with a party of 17 to celebrate birthdays. Our servers were terrible, and when we receive the bill, we were charged for items that we did not receive. One person at our table ordered a drink after waiting nearly 30 minutes they told the waiter to forget it we were charged for that drink on our bill. My husband and I order to glass of wine, then my husband ordered a second which he never received we were charged for that also. We ordered four Sushi bowls and were charged for six. I tried to speak to our waiter about this and he was useless, so I asked for the manager, when I explained that we did not get these items he said he would take off one glass of wine but I would have to pay for the rest of what we did not get. I told him we would not be paying for what we did not get, then he called the police, three officers showed up and after arguing over the bill for 15 minutes in the middle of the restaurant the rude manager finally took the $40 off our bill. Then he came over with the check from another couple that was at our table and accused them of not paying their bill so I called them and asked and they said they paid $55 in cash, after the manager went back again and checked with the waiter the $55 suddenly appeared. The food was good so was our chef and the ladies who cleared our dishes. Our waiter was terrible and all three managers we're very unprofessional and rude. The manager actually told us to leave the restaurant and never come back, which makes me question his intelligence, does he really think we would ever go back there? So beware if you choose to go to this restaurant, do not expect good service, do not expect the managers to be professional, courteous and helpful. And check your bill very carefully because they charge for things that you did not receive and then actually argue with their customers in the middle of the restaurant and call the...
