I really want to love this place but it just keeps falling short. First strike was being served and charged for an alcoholic drink when ordered a NON-alcoholic drink. As someone who is in the program, this is a HUGE deal. When I went to pay and mention this to the manager, she could have cared less. Five years of sobriety gone because a “new” server didn’t pay attention to what she was serving. (And before you come at me, I thought the drink tasted weird but realized there was alcohol in it a little late). Of course I was upset, but mistakes happen. I Was surprised there was no apology or even maybe take the drink off my bill, instead they charged me for the non-alcoholic version. As a person in the service industry for over 15 years I found that to be insane. Yall just dosed me with alcohol from pure negligence on the servers end. Fast forward a few months later and decided to go back this afternoon, told there was a 15 minute wait. Of course no big deal, popular place. We were sat and then ignored for another 15 minutes while watching other tables get sat after us and service. Maybe just another a mishap, as I said I’m in the industry I know how it can go, I also know a slight acknowledgment and a glass of water when you sit (as they did with everyone else around us who got sat after us) goes a long way. I guess all in all, food is great but service is really lacking. Like I said, I want to like this place and was looking forward for a nice sit down breakfast,(even though the first time they served me alcohol after ordering something from their mocktail menu) but service fell short again. We ended up just walking out after letting them know we had never been greeted after we were sat. Mind you a few tables got sat after us and they had already been greeted. Oh well, honestly I think im just still upset of the pure negligence of being served a drink with alcohol and then being treated like it wasn’t a big deal....
Read moreI really think the good reviews for this place are fake or purchased; we had a terrible breakfast experience here. Food was gross, salmon tasty fishy, and the coffee came cold because it was just sitting there. Plus I try to avoid dairy and I ordered an almond milk latte which they served with whipped cream all over it without asking me. The full detailed review is below for those interested but I wouldn’t come here again.
I ordered a winter special the everything salmon toast and my boyfriend got the supreme biscuit and cracked pepper gravy. I included a screenshot of the description and a screenshot of what I was served. Mine was supposed to be sliced sourdough topped with whipped feta spread, lemon-dressed arugula, smoked salmon, pickled onion, capers, and everything bagel seasoning. I ordered it and requested no capers. The sourdough itself had nearly no spread on it, it was a thin, thin layer barely covering the toast. The arugula was plain there was absolutely no lemon dressing and they completely forgot the bagel seasoning so I had to ask our waiter to bring it over. The salmon itself was not good quality, you can see in the photo it almost looked slimy and there were blood marks on the actual fish and it had a STRONG fishy taste. On top of that we ordered two speciality lattes, the food came before the coffee, so I told the food runner we were waiting on them and a few moments later another runner brought out the coffees- they were meant to be hot lattes and they weren’t even lukewarm because they had been sitting there. I also ordered mine with almond milk and they put the whip cream on it without even asking me. My boyfriend’s dish was decent but they smothered everything in the gravy, including his eggs, which isn’t usually how that dish is served and the gravy was nothing special - it was super gunky. Not sure if maybe we just both ordered the wrong thing but it was a gross...
Read moreHey first off I’m from Philly and let me just say…. The south has grits on locks. Nobody can mess with the south and their grits. The recipe has been perfected and no one can touch yhall on that. The atmosphere was that of a typical breakfast place. It’s crowded which is not a bad thing, I equate it with the food being good. They had a regular black and white color scheme, nothing fancy, and the carve out section for the bakery is very nice touch. It’s the only part that stands out there and while I didn’t try any of the food from the bakery, it all looked amazing and if it taste anything like the dish I had I’m sure it’s fire. The service was stellar. The team there was very attentive. Our server looked like what you would expect in such a place but the service he provided was stellar. I’m so familiar with being left and neglected in places that I had to catch myself because I almost got annoyed with his superior attentiveness. Now the good part the food:
I had the ultimate breakfast with the upgrade to the brioche French toast and was not disappointed. The eggs weren’t running, or cold (or have shells in them). The brioche French toast was great. The syrup was amazing… I’m not sure it’s regular syrup… it’s special. Then there was the grits! I’m a fan of grits and woooo boyyy the south got that recipe for them things. Those things were right!!! My brother had the cinnamon roll or cinnamon French toast and that was probably better than anything I had. It has to be their signature dish. I can’t imaging them having anything better than that. It was delicious. The only thing that could possibly be better was those pastries from the bakery section. Overall the experience was great and I’d recommend if ur in town you check it out. However call ahead. And tell them you want to cheese mixed into the eggs and grits or they do they sprinkle joint… but that’s just me...
