There are some other reviews here that will find this incredible, being a five-star rating. Be that as it may, I decided to go with it. I'm not a huge fast-food diner, but have driven by Culver's all over this part of the country since moving here. Being the adventurous sort, I decided to give it a shot. Besides, I'm always up for a good, greasy cheeseburger.
I really didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. It was already after lunch, so the crowd was small - in the drive-thru that is. You couldn't go into the store, yet. We pulled into the drive-thru and perused the menu, landing on two types of cheeseburgers - the Butterburger and Culver's Deluxe. The photo on this review isn't amazing, but who really expects the food to look like the advertisement?
Even though the photo doesn't show it well, this was one of the best cheeseburgers I've had. Unlike most other chain restaurants specializing in burgers, this one tasted like it actually could have come right out of your own kitchen. Assuming you know how to fry a hamburger. It didn't taste processed, wasn't bland and seemed like someone had just pressed a patty together with all the ingredients and fried it up. The fries probably were from a bag of frozen fries, but even they seemed much tastier than some other choices around.
There was a small mixup in the order, with some of the condiments not being included as ordered, but that's a pretty small deal, considering the burger was the priority. As we ordered, I asked the young man at the window what he usually got from there and was told that I had done a fine job of ordering, getting what he does. That's probably small confirmation for some, but based on his attitude and friendliness, it meant something to me. The food was great, the people were nice and the line formed behind us, telling me how popular a place it must actually be. I'll be coming back, and this time I'm trying the frozen custard.
Round two:
We returned to this location to give it another shot, really intending to try the frozen custard this time. It turns out that after a double cheeseburger, fries and a great root beer, there's not enough room for the custard it seems.
You'd think that being on the COVID diet for the last few months would make us more able to eat this much, but I guess not. Be that as it may, the food quality here is still very good. It is still my first choice for a fast food cheeseburger.
The sandwiches truly appear to be freshly made right off the grill. When you look at them, the patties do not take on a frozen appearance. They look like something that your mother just threw into a pan and fried up. They also serve their own brand of root beer, which takes me back to the old A&W days. It's not too sweet and not too herbal. It's just right.
The only slightly negative thing I could add is related to COVID. We ate inside, since this location now takes dine in customers. The condiment bar was covered and empty, though. My doctor probably wouldn't like it, but I like a bit of salt on my fries. As mentioned, the condiment section was empty. I'm sure I could have asked for some from the staff, but chose to eat them without it, however.
I'm absolutely certain that if I would have asked, the staff would have been more than happy to comply with my request. They are always so friendly and smilingly helpful. I've heard before that you don't really sell a product, you sell a service. It seems this...
Read moreWent to the Kissimee Culvers after a hot day at WDW AK park. Just looking for some quick, good fast food. I visited a Culvers in the Mid West last year, and it was excellent. I thought it was good because it was the mid west and, well, people are different there, when compared to the East Coast ( especially the tri-state area). I decided to give it a try here.
Well, I am sitting at my table, after scarfing down a double bacon burger, fries and some root beer. All I can say is .. WOW. This organization is top notch! Other fast food chains should take note and learn from Culvers. The experience I had in mid west happened here in Fla. It must be the organization! TOP NOTCH.
Upon entry to the building, we were welcomed by a young lady that was washing the tables. She stopped, looked at us, smiled and said "Welcome to Culvers".
I approached the counter to order, and was met by a young gentleman, who greeted us with a smile and a Welcome to Culvers, how are you today?" When I answered and asked how he was, he actually responded with a " Good, thank you for asking." He stated that if we had any questions, please ask and offered a small sample taste of a new flavor custard. ( Midnight Toffee and BTW, it was REALLY GOOD)
Took my order, and gave me a number to place on my table. I was then thanked - again- for choosing Culvers.
Food was promptly brought out to us, we were greeted and asked if we needed anything. When I said No, the young lady said ( again) thanks for coming to Culvers.
Food was good. Burgers were cooked perfectly and were juicy, fries were obviously cooked to order, as they were steaming hot and crispy.
The place is SPOTLESS... even the bathrooms.
I thought I was in the Twilight Zone... LOL.. I mean "Thank You" "Welcome" spotless fast food establishments.. where am I??
DEFINITELY VISIT THIS PLACE!
It was a breath of fresh air being treated like a paying customer, rather than a nuisance, like other places (you hear that Mc Donald's, BK and Wendys?) The gratitude appeared genuine and not rehearsed, and it seemed everyone working had a smile on their face.
I will be returning and patronizing Culvers whenever I have a choice...
Read morePatty Melt good; Curds, not so much!
Two nights ago I finally went to Culver’s; had no idea what it was all about.
So they’re a burger & ice cream, fast food, drive through & eat in restaurant chain with an array of lots and lots of ice cream flavors and serving combinations.
With an extensive menu board to select from, I settled for the Wisconsin single patty melt and I thought it said, $5 something for the sandwich.
Of course not knowing a thing about the menu and how things work—is it like a happy meal at Mickey D’s? ..or do you order just the burger like at Whhaattaburger?— when the guy asked me if I wanted the basket, I said, I wanted to sample the cheese curds, which is their signature item.
That alone is mind blowing.
If those cheese curds had real cheese inside, it was very well disguised by the deep fried batter that encrusted whatever might have been in the center of the nugget. I had three pieces and that was enough, eek! The rest, to the garbage it went.
On the upside though, I will say, the patty melt was good. The beef was fresh, and definitely you could taste the farm to table freshness.
When I ordered the so called “basket” which is the equivalent of a happy meal, they told me I could substitute the soda for a shake. And so I did... a chocolate malted please!
At the end, what started out as a $5 patty melt, turned out to be a $12 cheese sandwich, with a chocolate malted and little balls of greasy deep fried batter that straight into the garbage it went.
So my question is, if the cheese curds is what they’re known for, is it because they’re real Wisconsin cheese nuggets? And if so, what happened to the cheese? And why don’t they come free with the meal, even if, just a sampler portion.
Sorry, but I would rather have fresh fries from McDonald’s any day and twice on Sundays that these no cheese, grease balls they call “curds.”
Last night I went to Sweet Tomatoes for the first time, and you would not believe the fabulously fresh food buffet the same $12 will buy you there... and that my friends was ummm,...
