If you're looking for a caffeine fix before an early morning flight out of Miami, Juan Valdez Colombian Cafe might catch your eye. However, my recent experience left much to be desired, though it's worth noting that options are quite limited once you've passed through airport security.
I started with the Espresso Cubano Xtra. The coffee was decent, but the balance was off. It was overly sweetened, which overpowered the flavors you'd expect from a good espresso. Despite the sweetness, there was still an underlying bitterness that seemed out of place. It was drinkable, but not something I'd look forward to again.
Next, I tried the Iced Chai Latte. This was a significant disappointment. It was ridiculously sweet, to the point where it tasted more like a sugar-laden milkshake than a chai latte. The worst part was the complete lack of any noticeable tea flavor or spice that makes a chai latte enjoyable. It felt like drinking flavored syrup with ice. If you're a fan of chai, I'd recommend avoiding this one altogether.
For a quick bite, I opted for a plain bagel with butter. Unfortunately, this was another letdown. The bagel itself was okay, but the butter situation was frustrating. They don't spread the butter for you, leaving you to struggle with cold butter packets and a flimsy plastic knife. Trying to evenly spread cold butter on a bagel while at the airport is not an ideal start to the morning. It might seem like a minor inconvenience, but when paired with mediocre coffee, it just added to the overall disappointment.
In summary, Juan Valdez Colombian Cafe is not a place I'd recommend unless you've exhausted all other options. The coffee was mediocre, the chai latte was a sugary mess, and the food was lackluster at best. Given the limited choices at the airport, it might do in a pinch, but I'd suggest looking elsewhere if you have the time or the option. With so many great cafes out there, even in an airport setting, it's a shame this one didn't live up to...
Read moreI ordered a chocolate nevado and had a terrible customer experience. The lady who attended to me worked Sept 28 at 6:45pm, was rude, impatient, ignorant of the drinks, and made me feel like I was in the wrong. Hence this 1 star review.
I am a Colombian and have gotten nevados from Juan Valdez in Colombia, so I know they have coffee and come with various additions of coffee, arequipe, etc.
I first asked if she could make a nevado with decaffeinated coffee, and after a bit of a confusing answer, she finally indicated she could. Then I asked the nevado be a chocolate nevado, and she proceeded to charge me for two drinks. When I clarified I wanted only one, we went round and around on whether I wanted a coffee nevado or a chocolate nevado, and finally she tried to charge me for a chocolate nevado with an extra shot if coffee. So I clarified that I just wanted substitution of the coffee already in it, not additional. She became flustered and very impatient and changed her tone. She insisted the chocolate nevado had no coffee. She eventually called someone else over (I think the manager snd another barista) and they said the nevados had a little bit of coffee, just a little bit. Very weird because nevados have a strong coffee flavor.
At this point I just wanted something, so I told her to just make the chocolate nevado normal, no extra coffee. Before I ended up paying, somehow she got the computer stuck on a charge of 12 dollars and change and had to wait for the manager to fix it. I paid the advertised price but don’t know if they ended up adding the extra shot or not, nor if it was decaffeinated. She is very incompetent and needs to either be trained...
Read moreI came in april 12th to buy some things for my kid and as I am being checked out, my kid and brother saw something on the little counter oven that they wanted, and the cashier with an attitude complained in spanish( the store was empty at this point, so is not like she was waiting to attend someone else) , not knowing I know spanish 🙂 so I said in spanish “since it bothers her that we want to buy more stuff, don’t get nothing”, at the end of the day is not my loss, it’s the business loss because I did not walk in to the store asking for anything free or for any favor, and why would I bother spending my money to buy something if it bothers you to sell it to me. Mañita más fea que se tienen los latinos queriendo hablar en español y pensar que porque el cliente no luce como el “típico latino” pueden actuar y decir los que les...
