Definitely not my overall favorite "BBQ" restaurant but I'm spoiled rotten because I'm a Texas girl..."Nuff said." What I will say is that my son, Jacob's and my experience was off-the-charts!! We went in when it wasn't busy before dinnertime and Layton is the gentleman who served us, not just our food but REALLY served us.
I was polite and friendly (no disrespect needed) but communicated my BBQ standards and he laughed and agreed that this was not "real Texas BBQ" but the Florida folks really enjoyed it. I told him that was quite alright but asked him to make a suggestion on the menu since I wasn't exactly inspired. He recommended the chicken BBQ nachos after I asked him about the chili nachos. He said he preferred the chicken ones (although kinda weird for me) because the chili ones made the chips all soggy but the light BBQ sauce on the chips was the way to go. So that's what I ordered.
My son and I were looking for gaming headphones on Amazon (on my phone of course) while we not-so-patiently waited for our food. We then decided to ask Layton if he was into video games (because he looked like he was...don't all guys?) and if so, if he knew anything about the gaming headphones. He then laughed when we asked him the bizarre request but did "admit" he knew a thing or two about gaming because he was the proud owner of a Nintendo Switch! He did make a suggestion that was a big help in eventually finding the perfect headset.
FYI... Layton, Nintendo Switch is only 'really" compatible with a standard audio wired, no bluetooth (sad face), which we did purchase at Best Buy, in case you're wondering how we made out!
Needless to say, Jacob and I were both happy about his excellent "customer service" which was really all about just helping us, not as customers, but as people...so much that we were compelled to ask to speak to his manager and to acknowledge him for how he was the main factor in our overall experience and that it wasn't the food (for us at least) but it was Layton who showed us he really cared. Thank you, Layton!!!
So, if you are looking for a fun or relaxed/ chill...experience and you are NOT looking for "authentic" Texas BBQ AND you are open to a more "basic" BBQ (which it is pretty good, I must say), then PLEASE check them out and ask for Layton...hopefully he won't disappoint (unless he's having a bad day like we all do sometimes) and tell him how you heard about him...he doesn't even know my name but I guarantee he remembers us.
And BTW, DON"T judge them on the "authenticity" of their food because I already...

We sampled a wide variety of food including some soups, kids meal, and the sampler platter for two.
When entering the front of the restaurant I noticed alot of cardboard boxes on a rack which took away from the ambiance, however, the staff was friendly and we were quickly seated in the near empty dining room. To be fair we were there at 4pm in the post lunch/ pre dinner lull. My daughter got a kids menu and crayons.
We ordered the split pea soup, the chili, and the Lucilleās sunshine lemonade to start. Everything was hot and fresh, and the drinks were well balanced. The one odd thing was the lemons that were put on the table for our waters were slimy⦠strange.
For entrees we ordered the kids hot dog (my daughter approved) and the hawg platter for two. The ribs were good, and we sampled all the sauces available, my preference was the smoky but thereās sweet, spicy, and Carolina mustard available as well. The platter came with 5 meats - 1/2 rack baby backs, 1/4 chicken dark, pulled chicken, bbq brisket (shredded), and pulled pork. It also included your choice of three sides, and two corn muffins.
Ribs and chicken were good. Pulled meats were not. Chicken was dry, brisket was a bit tough, and pork was also dry and extremely salty. Overall it can be summed up that the ribs and chicken tasted fresh and the pulled meats tasted like they had been sitting since open with little to no turn because of the lower daytime/ elderly crowd.
The portions of the sides were small relative to the amount of meat they gave you. They also left a lot to be desired. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and bland, the cream spinach comes in a metal ramekin and was an unpleasant texture. It was basically a small baked spinach dip. In hindsight I wished we tried the coleslaw and baked beans.
The meal finished with ice cream sandwiches all around which was a nice sweet treat to end the meal.
Overall the restraunt seems to be in transition and stuck in the trap of delray marketplaces downturn. Seems like they have made a pivot to cater to older clientele, with early bird specials. This seems to be the case at many places in the delray...

We have been coming to Lucille's for around a decade. During this time, we tend to order the same things. Half chicken, pulled chicken, kitchen sink salad, split pea soup, lentil soup, and pretty much all the side dishes.
Every single time, the food is exceptional. The meat is tender and cooked perfectly. The side dishes (mac and cheese, baked beans, creamed spinach, cole slaw, corn bread, and french fries) are to die for.
The half chicken (all white meat optional) and kitchen sink salad are absurdly good. The BBQ sauces are all very good and made in house. The combo meals for early bird are a great value (roughly $18) for a full meal with soup, entree, 2 sides, corn bread, and dessert.
They also have a full bar, and let me tell you - absolutely AMAZING old fashioned. You would never believe that a down home BBQ spot would have a full bar let alone top tier old fashioned's. However, Lucille's never ceases to amaze. Perfectly crafted cocktail complete with one large large ice cube, luxardo cherry, and perfect ratios of bourbon to bitters. Sincerely, mind blowing how good this old fashioned was and half the price of any normal cocktail bar.
The service is amazing with very friendly and efficient servers. JEN IS EXCEPTIONAL. Truly fantastic service that is fast, friendly, and customer oriented.
The ambiance is casual, comfortable, and inviting. There is plenty of space to spread out both inside and outside. There is also tons of parking and full handicapped access. Bathrooms are clean, dining area is clean, and kitchen is clean.
If you're in the mood for great BBQ at a great price, stop in and give them a try. You'll definitely be glad you did and likely will become regulars after...
