Shades was an excellent stop on our trip. The menu felt unique, the food was FANTASTIC, and it was just a nice bar and grill. Service was great as well. This is somewhere I could eat multiple times on a vacation and not get burnt out.
To start, the volcano shrimp was to die for. I love typical firecracker/hot shrimp dishes, and this was some of the best. Shrimp was cooked well, and sauce was generous, as well as the portion size. A perfect dish. To follow, I ordered the Salmon Pad Thai and my fiancé ordered the Steak Hibachi. The pad Thai was better than pad Thai I have ordered from most pad Thai places. The salmon was blackened and grilled well. SO much flavor on the dish, to go along with a perfect portion size. I also tried a bite of my fiancé's steak hibachi, and it was delicious too. The steak was seasoned wonderfully and the rice was flavorful, and the yum yum sauce did not taste generic. Excellent food all around!
Cost here was fine. We ordered two expensive dishes, an appetizer, and 3 beers and walked out with a subtotal of 95 dollars before tip. One could easily eat here for much less.
The Bar & Grill itself was clean, well spaced, and felt so familiar. It felt like any bar & grill anywhere in America, so it was just a comfortable, nice, clean place to eat.
We sat at the bar, and were served quick and well the entire time. Staff was talkative and personable, as well as other patrons. I have 0 complaints on the quality of service.
Overall, an excellent option. I want to go back, it just isn't close enough to Ohio!

Read moreEverything was Good!... But not necessarily "Great". Food was really very good, just not super 'cravable'... I had the "Spicy Goat Burger" w/fries; I thought it was great quality, but nothing about it was 'spicy', this was disappointing because I LOVE spicy food and this was a big selling point for me. Fries were actually wonderful! One major criticism from me, personally, filter your water. Many of us are water drinkers and we notice all of the tap water impurities. I feel like in an area like this, this shouldn't be a major ask. I actually believe all food service should be required to filter their drink water. Elevate yourself and filter your water. Advertise it. It will set you apart and bring your establishment up.
Service was fast and friendly, Shaun checked on me appropriately and was very prompt. He did a great job in every way, and I tipped him accordingly.
Atmosphere was...alright. It's supposed to be a 'sports bar'. Lots of TVs, displaying various sports, but the volume was off and there was no closed captions. Granted there wasn't an actual game on at the moment, so hopefully they have the volume ON during those events. I felt like if they're on, we ought to be able to know what's going on on them. Closed caption, please.
Overall the place was Very Good, it just wasn't as 'memorable' as I'd like it to be in an area like that. I will likely go back at some point, but I may not go out of my way for it. I'm stuck between ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, but I'm giving them the extra point because small tweaks would bring it all the way up. First, and foremost, thank you for the high quality...
Read moreUnfortunately I can not accurately rate the food but I do want to share our recent experience. Our family which was a party of 7 arrived and put our name on the waiting list and was quoted 30-45 minutes. We went to the bar and ordered a few beverages while we waited. We then waited outside along with several other groups and throughout our wait, a member of our group visited the check-in area to see how much longer and at that time, was quoted a longer wait time. This was understandable as it is Spring break. At 80 minutes, we had to go inside to wait due to inclement weather where we visited the check-in again and they said that we were next. The kitchen had gotten behind and trying to play catch up.
Once we stared to notice that other large groups were being seated, I visited the check-in and asked to speak with the manager. She proceeded to tell me that they in fact had tried to text us which we had not received any text messages that they were ready to seat us.
I do want to share that I worked in a restaurant for over 15 years and I do own a retail business. We had 3 small children with us and while I absolutely understand that it’s busy season, the customer service in which we received at the front was unacceptable. Seeing how we visited the front multiple times and were visibly standing right there, when we did not respond to the text that was supposedly sent, someone could have approached us to have us seated.
I have heard great things regarding the food but did not get to experience it. When we left at 8pm we had to improvise with fast food which was...
