In short, average food that was quite a bit expensive but service from the male kitchen chef is why the rating is lower than I'd normally put. We asked for bacon on the side for the eggs benedict as I cannot eat bacon and when we brought attention to the bacon on the item and asked for it to be remade (without complaint, I get mistakes get made it's no biggie and I just wanted it remade), it looked like the chef just took the bacon off and was going to give it back... I could've easily done that myself if that would've solved the problem... When we saw what was happening and brought it up, the chef gave us the nastiest look which was pretty disappointing and unkind. The owner (a woman) was much nicer about it and ensured that the item was remade, but it made me feel quite guilty and upset to simply ask for the thing I'm paying for be made the way I asked it to be made (due to a real and NOT difficult dietary restriction), and be treated the way I was wasn't okay. When I got the new meal back, it was so hastily put together that the hash browns were raw and I think that may have caused me to throw up afterwards (I'm thinking it was the hash browns bc they were warm but uncooked, but I'm not sure), which was also quite disappointing. I hope that this will encourage the chef to act differently in the future with the guest experience in mind, and I'm willing to change this review based on the...
Read moreWe recently visited Canopy Road Café in Rosemary Beach. The food was decent — nothing extraordinary, but fine for a casual meal — and our server, Anastasia, was truly wonderful: friendly, attentive, and professional.
However, our overall experience was overshadowed by something we witnessed that was deeply concerning. A black family was seated near us at the same time we arrived. Shockingly, they were never even greeted or given water. Meanwhile, nearby tables (including ours and others) received service promptly.
At one point, a different server (not Anastasia) yelled across the patio at them, saying, “Your server is busy, but I’ll get to you in a bit!” — something I have never seen happen to any other guests, certainly not in that tone. After another ten minutes of being ignored, the family understandably left. Sadly, the server later commented casually, “Oh well, I feel bad for those people, but when it gets busy, it happens,” despite other (white) families being seated and served within minutes during that same time frame.
It was upsetting and frankly unacceptable to witness what felt like a clear case of discrimination. Good food and good service at one table can’t make up for an atmosphere where some guests are treated so poorly. I hope management takes this seriously and commits to training their staff to treat every guest with the respect and basic hospitality...
Read moreWe had been to this café several times since we live nearby. The food was always enjoyable and since it’s never crowded, it’s easy to get in and out. This morning we came in for breakfast. The restaurant’s tables as well as breakfast bar area were almost empty. When we sat down at the countertop, the gentleman behind the counter said “it’s not an open bar”. When we questioned him on what he meant, he said you have to wait on line. My husband said “I’m sorry, was there someone waiting?” He said no. He then said “since you’re seated, I’ll let you stay”. My husband and I looked at each other and could not understand the rude behavior of the gentleman on the other side of the countertop. We stood up, headed straight for the door, and when we walked past two employees my husband said “you have a rude person behind the counter”. If this gentlemen works for tips, he is in the wrong industry. With so much competition like the Donut Hole or Big Bad Breakfast to name a few, and knowing the restaurant is already half empty, the owner may want to rethink this employee. Unfortunately, you lost our...
