So decided to give Shortys another try after more than 10 years hoping they learned "or want" to serve proper beef brisket. Little did I know that I would be disappointed yet again... All I can say is that if I had a BBQ joint, I would ashamed to serve what they are serving as brisket. I ordered a 1lb brisket and it was dull flavorless meat that tasted as if it had been boiled in water and then sprinkled with salt and pepper. No smoke flavor, no penetration of spices or smokiness at all... I really wished the owners or the general managers of Shortys went to Famous Dave's or Shivers BBQ and ate brisket so that they can compare with what they are selling. And... Famous Dave's is a chain restaurant and probably just reheats their stuff but it is still very good. Shivers is probably fresh locally made but their are both just as good, very juicy and tasty with multiple layers of taste and plenty of that tangy smokiness. I am attaching 3 pictures... You be the judge... Which one looks the least appetizing...? I also had BB ribs but will not bash them with those but they could use more smoke flavor... Come on Shorty's after so many years of serving your comunity you should know and do better...

Being from North Carolina, eating BBQ on a regular basis is necessary for maintaining my happiness. While in Miami recently I got the hankering! There is a BBQ chain in Florida that most people refer me to, but i have never been completely satisfied with their offerings. So while driving around looking for another option I happened upon Shorty’s BBQ, and I am glad I did. Even though this BBQ joint is in South Miami it is the real deal. I had the Smoked Chicken and Rib combo with a sweet potato, coleslaw, and Texas toast. The meal was excellent! The smoke is well controlled and not overdone, the meat is moist and not overcooked, and the coleslaw is not overly sweet. I would give the restaurant 5 stars if it offered a vinegar based sauce option. The only option I was offered was a thick, brown sugar type sweet sauce. It was very good but not my thing. The employees were all very polite and responsive. The restaurant was clean with plenty of parking available. The atmosphere is definitely “BBQ joint” decor. I was properly welcomed and properly thanked for my business, and the price was reasonable. I will definitely go back when I am in town!

i hadn’t been here in years because i visited a few times and the food wasn’t great, compared to the OG location at dadeland. i gave this another shot recently, in the interest of saving myself the drive across town. the food was much better and it has been consistently good the last few times i came! the place is clean and organized well, the staff was very friendly and attentive (thanks, Cookie!) and the food was pretty good, for the most part. the corn was fantastic, the beef sandwich was tender and flavorful, and the fries were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside! where things did come a bit undone was with the coleslaw and the baked beans. the coleslaw was super dry and the beans tasted like cough syrup. i’ve had both of these items here in the past and have never had this issue, so maybe is was just an off day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I ordered over the phone for pickup and when I arrive I was waiting for about 15-20 mins just to pick up my order. Let alone two other people waiting ahead of me for who knows how long. There wasn’t a person at the pickup counter but there were other employees walking by us waiting without care in the world. I asked one employee at the main counter if there’s anyone coming as I was concerned, the way she looked at me as if I bothered her... What happened to the service here has it gone down since this pandemic? I hope not as I’ve to this place for years and it’s never been this bad. It wasn’t a busy night either, there’s just no reason. Empathy or acknowledgement towards any of customers for waiting without any communication is unfortunate. When someone finally showed up they just handed the food, bye.

Went there for the lunch special with my pregnant wife, ribs were dry and chewy without bbq sauce, and so were the dry baked potatoes. The young waitress had no clue about the menu ( which is not her fault; it’s whoever trained her). I talked to one of the supervisor ladies and was trying to point out that the ribs were dry and chewy, and they just apologized for it without offering a replacement or refund. I’ve been working in the restaurant/bar industry myself for almost 20 years. What also surprised me was that soda was more expensive than beer, but that’s more of a funny thing. At the end we spent $40 leaving the place hungry. Money/ value and quality wise it’s not worth to go there again

Old fashioned American food and barbeque and it's great. Ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken, baked beans, corn on the cob and all the other fixings too. The atmosphere is great with loads of antique tools, signs and animal heads mounted all over the restaurant. Great, fast service by friendly waiters.
