The customer service was great. Very nice and cordial. We were there on Sunday, 21st, at 5:39 pm. We were taken to our table and we noticed it was warm inside the restaurant. Not a good start. We ordered: California Roll & Egg Roll as the appetizers, and the Combo Teriyaki Dinner as our main course. We received all three at the same time. We wanted to enjoy our company and also have a comfortable time out. It appeared we were being rushed to eat and leave since everything was served at once. That was not right. The restaurant is warm, be ready for that when you come. The California Roll was good. By the time it came to the Egg Roll, it was cold (okay, something could have been said, but we're with another couple). We ordered as the appetizers. As for the Combo Teriyaki Dinner. We did mention to our server, we were sharing and we wanted an extra plate. We received one small bowl of rice. Granted, the meal is sold for one person. How much would have it cost to give us enough rice for two (Other restaurants don't think twice and will serve a large portion of rice since their money is on the customer being happy...and hopefully coming back). As for the dinner... two quarter slices of zucchini, four shrimp, six half slices of carrots, fifteen or so green beans, really over-done flat beef, and really over-done large slices of chicken was all served on a plate with a pool of what is supposed to be teriyaki soup(?). The pool was mostly soy sauce and water. All that and it was warm. This dish could be very nicely served with a actual teriyaki sauce, chicken and beef with a flavor, and vegetables all on a plate. This was not the case.
We felt that were there to eat and go. If this all happened again, the order would have been for California Roll...stop. Then order the egg rolls...stop. and then decide to order something else. That way we could have had an enjoy first experience of a meal at this restaurant.
As for the prices, the meal and drinks should have been 25% less for what we received.. A large sake costing close to $10...please! Close to $4 for an iced tea, Tea is cheap. A whole bottle of sake cost $10. The meal should be $15.. Yes, it costs $$ to have a business, but why scalp the customer? Don't you want us to tell other people?
It's not the first time the customer comes to your restaurant...it's the next...
Read moreWalking in and glancing at Thai Hana's menu was all the convincing I needed to dine in. A whopping 17-page spread, complete with pictures of most dishes, made my mouth water. I ordered a bowl of Miso Ramen, along with a Super Crunch Roll.
A modest-sized staff managed to keep things running, delivering food and politely checking in on diners intermittently, and before I could drool over the menu for too long, my sushi roll landed on the table, still piping hot and coated in eel and spicy mayo sauces. A picture does this roll no justice—longer than 12 inches laid out on a tray, and sliced into 14 pieces, each about three inches across.
The Super Crunch Roll gets its name from its asparagus filling and tempura flake coating, giving it a satisfying crispiness that “crunches” between the teeth. Crab, eel, salmon, cream cheese, and avocado grant this roll a traditional flavor, but the variety of fish meat gives it a smoky-sweet taste, strengthened by the blend of eel sauce and optional soy sauce (for dipping).
This roll fully satisfied me, leaving me without appetite for seconds, as I had originally planned—I had to save room for my ramen, after all. If the Super Crunch Roll is any indicator of Thai Hana’s typical fanfare, then I could happily choose Thai Hana over its competition, knowing that my money would be going towards larger sushi rolls with larger-than-life flavor. I have made plans to go back for more.
Shortly after my roll arrived, the giant bowl of ramen arrived in front of me. Given the choice between miso and shoyu broth, I chose the miso, then splashed a bit of soy sauce into the mix to add some saltiness and additional flavor. Far from a side-dish, the ramen was a meal in its own right and would have easily filled my stomach without the addition of a sushi roll. (And please let me geek out a moment: It resembled Naruto’s Ichiraku Ramen almost flawlessly, with yellow noodles, pork slices, seaweed, scallions, and Naruto fishcakes).
Eating at Thai Hana is an experience I’ll gladly repeat, and one I highly recommend. The restaurant is clean, the staff friendly, and the food quite tasty. An enormous variety of sushi, soups, salads, curries, and other Thai staples will ensure each meal is as unique as...
Read moreNice place, a bit disappointing though. Just a caveat here, this review mainly applies towards their sushi and Japanese food. We haven’t tried their Thai food, so I can’t speak to that. Let’s start off by saying Thai Hana is a nice place with extremely attentive staff. The restaurant is fairly small so there’s limited seating, come early ir you might be waiting for a while.
So I want to start off saying that we had tried Thai Hana in the past and stopped going there because the sushi was fairly lackluster. We decided to try it again and I can report that the old feelings of mediocrity came flooding back after we ate the sushi there. The sushi rice has very little flavor and seems to have no sushi vinegar in it to provide the proper juxtaposition of sweet and tangy. The quality of the fish for the nigiri was fine but not above average.
Ok, here’s where it turned kind of bad for the dinner. We did order some ramen for our daughter which we asked the waitress about in terms of the broth content. She stated it was a chicken stock, however when we got the ramen it was not chicken stock, it was a kind of pork bone stock that was pungent in all the wrong ways. It was also in eatable. When we asked them about the soup they said they would give us a new bowl of ramen with the chicken stock. When they brought it back to the table however we could tell that all they did was dump the old stock and put new stock in. Once again the soup was just in eatable. We wound up paying for the soup but never ate more than a spoonful. I’m telling you folks it really had a foul odor.
Anyhow, I try and be as fair as possible with my reviews and try not to give bad ratings unless it’s warranted. In this...
