The Mason Jar Pub — Restaurant in Florida

If you love comfort food such as fried chicken in white gravy this is your place. What will took me about this place was size of the portions. Most of the main dishes like the chicken fried steak and the pork chops were presented with such generous portions a single dish really could make two meals. Based on some of the tables around me I believe many were taking the second portion “to go”.

While it was comfort food, it was done right. The chicken was crispy, not greasy and had a pleasant crunch. The Mason Jar offers some real vegetables beyond the fried and empty nutrient sides you often order (although they have those too) such as broccoli. There is outside seating, the only downside is that it is steps from Oakland Park Blvd which is a major thoroughfare so you will be eating with revved engines and gas exhaust. We had a fabulous dinner tonight at the Mason Jar Pub in Fort Lauderdale. My friend, Phyllis, and I both loved the food at their other restaurant -- the Mason Jar Cafe, so we decided to try it here.

It's a tiny little place with a very cozy atmosphere. I took pictures of some of the inside decor. There is also seating outside with fans and misters.

Phyllis had a Caesar salad and their BBQ Rib special with a side of sweet potato fries. The ribs were huge, meaty, and very tasty. The sweet potato fries were truly the best we ever had! Not greasy and full of flavor.

I started with a house salad and then had an entree of Shrimp with Penne. It was in a tomato cream sauce, with spinach, mushrooms and Parmesan cheese. Delicious!

The service was very good and the food was excellent. We definitely want to go back again soon to try...

Don't go by the food pictures in here as they don't make justice to the actual plates you are served. While I haven't tried every dish on the menu, I have tried many dishes (Salmon, Burgers, Pork Chops, Mashed Potatoes, string veggies, Poblano sandwich... You get the idea) The food freshness and quality is top notch. And it is amazing how consistent they are with flavors, presentation and quantity.

I always order to go but I went there for dinner a few weeks ago and the staff is so proud of working there... That pride is transmitted to the customers which ends up in a GREAT experience. Kind, courteous, quick and friendly! Give it a try. There is something for everyone..... Before I forget, I am not a key lime pie fan but after I tried it here... Now Key Lime is one...
