I had an event on 8/2 and paid for an additional hour rental at Island City Park Preserve. I was told clearly by staff that if I was out by 7pm, I would get my $75 back. I made sure to meet that requirement, but when it came time to get the refund, I was met with nothing but attitude and confusion.
Steven (or Steve), the Assistant Director from Hagan Park, was incredibly unprofessional. Instead of helping resolve the issue, he pulled out a vague contract that said nothing about the refund policy. He was rude, dismissive, and completely unwilling to assist.
The staff onsite were also unhelpful and poorly trained—some even gave me conflicting information. It felt like no one knew what they were doing, and no one was interested in making the experience smooth or enjoyable.
Between the disorganized management, the lack of clear communication, and the hassle of dealing with staff who don’t follow through on what they say, I would strongly discourage anyone from booking an event here. It’s not worth the stress or the...
Read moreI was in the neighborhood of Highland Estates so I stopped to check out this park. At 3.42 acres it is located on the Middle River and it offers a beautiful view of the water. On my visit there were several people fishing off the elevated walkway and fishing pier. Near the pier is also a canoe and kayak launch. Other outside amenities include three pavilions, outdoor exercise equipment, a basketball court and playground for ages 2-12. In the center of the park there is a community center that has a full kitchen, meeting room, and a multi-purpose room that will hold 100 people. The only detractor I saw to the park was that it seemed to be a gathering spot for the homeless community but they were all sleeping on benches under the pavilion and no one approached me. The park is beautifully landscaped and with it's view of the water it is a tranquil green space for the residents and visitors of...

Picture packing a picnic lunch and heading down here on your lunch break and escaping those pesky coworkers and demanding bosses for 30 minutes of your day. Listen to and watch birds playing and creatures in the water doing what they do (what is that?). Get some fresh air and say hello to Mother Earth. Relax. Ok. Enough. Your 30 minutes are up. Back to...
