I went on this trip with my three best friends (four Midwest gay guys in our mid-30’s) for a first-time trip to Fort Lauderdale. We arrived midday Wednesday (08/06) and we left the following Sunday (08/10). For us, 4-5 days was the ideal duration with the summer heat of FLL. A few people during our trip told us this was considered ‘slow season’ in the area, but we enjoyed our stay immensely. The gay bars had a decent crowd each night, and no big crowds elsewhere (shops, restaurants). We were extremely happy with our lodging choice at Wilton River Suites Resort and look forward to make this an annual friends trip for us.|The pictures of Wilton River Suites were pretty much spot on with what we experienced. The shared kitchen/living room space was quite open and beautifully decorated. Our entire space was nice and cool the entire stay, which was a wonderful contrast to the 90*F humid days. The washer and dryer were easy to use for quick/small loads of laundry. The beds were quite firm with plenty of blankets/pillows. Each bedroom had a tv with streaming services to use. We had a small balcony off the living room with a table and two stools. The lobby of the building had a large ice machine which saved us from needing to buy ice anywhere. I enjoyed waking up and being able to walk a little on the treadmill in the small gym on the main floor to mitigate any hangover. The equipment all worked and was clean. There were outdoor bikes/helmets available to use, but it was a bit too humid for us. I personally really enjoyed the paddleboards/kayaks down on the dock just behind the pool area. There was some pretty wildlife (birds, lizards) to see along the river, but mostly other hotels/houses. The dock area also had a hammock for siestas as well as additional seating to hanging out.|The pool/patio area was another big highlight of the trip. The jacuzzi was slightly more private behind some shrubbery which was nice if one decided to skinny dip while on vacation. It had jets that could be turned on for 15-minute intervals (which was a nice feature to keep from dehydrating too quickly.) The pool itself was clean with plenty of space to be able to chat with others or keep to yourself if you’d like. Near the pool area, there is a covered cabana section with lounge chairs we were able to relax under if it got too hot. It ended up raining on our planned beach day, but the sound of rain was lovely white noise to have while reading and sipping our mimosas from a coffee cup.|On the weekend, there was a poolside Happy Hour for any guests in the building that week. We had a great time mingling with a small handful of guests (some vacationers/some long-term visitors) with beverages provided by Wilton River Suites. Lincoln (the concierge during our stay) was an absolute gentleman the entire time. He greeted us in the mornings as we'd head to the pool and brought out espressos for anyone that wanted one. He was able to answer a number of questions about the area for us as fresh travelers to the area.|We found Uber/Lyft to be the best option as far as going out in evenings. Any trip to one of the local gay bars or restaurants was $5 or less (without tip). Publix was a nearby full grocery store (~12min walk) which was only tough due to the humidity. As long as you are just making a small run for booze/groceries, or picking up a pizza order, the walks aren’t bad at all. Plan to be a little sweaty by the end of the walk is all. But the area itself was nice and we had no concerns for safety. Any general necessities you can walk to within 15 minutes. Our furthest drive was to/from the airport, which was only about 20 minutes.|I will add the bathrooms are not the most private/spacious if you are travelling with individuals that will take awhile to prepare before going out. There is a lobby bathroom that was often open and usable if needed. FYI in case you plan to book with anyone that takes awhile to get ready.|Overall, I had a wonderful time on my first trip to FLL/Wilton River Suites Resort. The hotel was located close enough to be able to walk and explore the area. The pool area/jacuzzi was clean and beautiful. The rooming was just as lovely and welcoming. Thanks again to Lincoln and the Wilton River Suites staff. We look forward to...
Read moreWe stayed at Wilton River Suites for 6 months. That was not a typo; 6 months due to a home renovation that went way overtime. Even so, WRS is still a short-term vacation rental property and you can reserve a few days or a few months.
The property is extremely well-appointed. It has a beautiful pool area and landscaping, spa/hot tub, gym, a riverside "beach" where you can lie out or take out kayaks on the river, a cornhole set, bicycles to borrow, complimentary electric car charging, BBQ grills for guest use, and plenty of free parking.
The rooms are spacious with balconies and large kitchens that are well-stocked. A few sample items: full utensils (plates, forks, knives, glasses, cups, mugs), drip/K-cup coffee maker, electric tea kettle, knives and cutting boards, toaster and microwave, electric stove and oven, bar accessories, and tons of storage for personal use. Each room has a balcony, large, flat-screen TV's, a thermostat that you control, ceiling fans, leather sofas, a dishwasher, a washer/dryer combo, and extra large closets.
Wilton River Suites has a casual and fun vibe. The General Manager, Lincoln, is super-friendly, extremely helpful, accommodating and makes every single guest feel like they are the only guest. The proprietors, Dave, Tom and Ken are also very nice guys and are constantly adding little touches and improvements to the property. There's also a happy-hour for all guests on Friday and Saturday evenings, and it's a great way to kick the night off and meet and chat with people while you're at it.
It doesn't surprise us that people were already booking for next year throughout our stay. We can't say enough nice things about WRS. It was the perfect choice for us...a quick walk to Wilton Drive, nice people, well-cared-for property, comfortable rooms. What more could you ask for?? Highly...
Read moreWilton River Suites….You didn’t disappoint. From making the arrangements, arrival, check-in and everything in between our stay was perfection. The suites are very well appointed and extremely comfortable. Internet enabled flat screens in the living room and bedroom worked flawlessly. “You Tube TV” provided on each set. The gym located on the 1st floor is well equipped with free weights, bench and 4 cardio machines. Heated pool, pool furniture and hammock are great and very comfortable. River deck, paddle boards, kayaks and bicycles are well maintained and always available for use.
What I enjoyed the most was the warm, homelike feeling you get from owners Ken, Tom and David who take such pride in their property that they are onsite almost everyday. Always a big hello when you see them. Then there’s our host Lincoln. On site everyday making sure every guest has everything they could possibly need. Espresso delivered to your chaise by the pool, hosting the Friday & Saturday Happy Hour and always with a smile. Lincoln is five stars!
The Hot Tub was being built during our stay and sadly wasn’t completed before we had to leave. I’m sure we will enjoy that addition when we return.
The impeccable service, property and location with access to the drive, beaches, shopping and dining made the decision ever so easy to reserve our suite for next year! Thank you Ken, Tom, David and Lincoln….See...
