Years ago, I'm not sure exactly when, we actually stopped off at Narrow Gauge to conclude a crawl of several microbreweries in the St. louis area. It hadn't been too long after they opened, I know that. So whenever that was. We only spent the time it took for one drink, but we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the beer! Fast forward to 2020, we moved into the area, and we're reminded of Narrow Gauge as it was now close by. We ventured over there and saw that Cuginos was next door. This was definitely not something we noticed years ago. It was probably because it had been the last stop on a crawl. Anyways we decided to have some dinner and check it out. It's one of our favorite places to go now. We rarely get out because our children are still young, but this is shaping up to be one of the places we feel comfortable to bring our girls. That first time, my then 2 year old danced and enjoyed herself so much, as they have touch tunes. The atmoshere was just buzzing. It was a great time. We've visited a handful of times and have had similar great experiences! We've also gotten food to pick up a couple of times as well. And most recently, a couple of weeks ago, my now almost 4 year old and 20 month old danced and ate and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We look forward to the next time we can make it up to Cuginos! The food is delicious, and my girls love the French fries. Also, the Cuginos bathroom has a cozy changing table! I also must say that over the course of the last 3 years, Cuginos has evolved and only improved on its menu, and business. Someone is putting a lot of love and thought into this...
Read moreCugi's is a lot of things to a lot of different people, but everyone I know thinks highly of this place. Ask any local and they'll tell you to visit and won't hesitate to mention Narrow Gauge beers, brewed on-site (for now at least) .
Currently, you enter into a large beer-hall-esque room with a bar in the corner and restrooms in the other. There's a hallway adjacent to this room where you can buy NG beer and merch to go at a little walk up window. This used to be the entrance foyer in the before-time. Beyond this is a another large bar area, with bathroom and lots of TVs for sports games. Beyond this room there is yet another dining room with some bar games.
The NG beers are pricey but that's a lot of hard work and effort you're paying for. It shows when you drink one of their beers, served in short (8oz) or tall (12oz) pours. Might seem small but the flavor is strong on most NG brews and the alcohol content alone justifies savoring every sip. Don't fret if that's not your cuppa suds. They have your standard beers, other local craft brews, and imports.
In the before-time, they boasted a huge menu of delicious food from bar favorites like wings, pizza, and burgers to Italian-inspired cuisine likely as a nod to the locations' former occupant Domenico's. The stuffed meatballs and garlic cheese bread are practically a meal for two and I highly recommend them if even for one;) Luckily they still serve these classics with their pared-down menu due to Covid-19.
Come check out Cugi's and don't forget to try some Narrow Gauge beer! Out at least get...
Read moreThe service was awesome! Our main server (who was also the bartender) was super attentive and friendly! He went out of his way to do extra for us just because (getting hot sauce for my husband to try, making a sweet tea that wasn't on menu)and when my husband asked for another slice of bread for his sandwich (it only came with one and we didn't know) he was kind and got one for him. He did all this while also manning the bar! The other members of staff were also very attentive. At least three of them checked on us pretty consistently throughout the night which was great! I ordered the parm chicken and my husband wanted the French dip but they were all sold out (which must mean it's pretty good) so he ordered the honey hot chicken sandwich with fries for both and the toasted ravioli for appetizer. The main dishes did take a while to come out but it was fine, it gave my husband and i time to talk and enjoy the music. The ravioli was good. My sandwich was a little burnt on the crust so I didn't enjoy it as much but the sauce that came with it was good. I ate half the sandwich and the fries were pretty good. My husband's sandwich was okay. My hubby also ordered a whiskey sour which was good. Overall the service was phenomenal and the food was so so however they have plenty on the menu so I definitely will be...
