Rancid Chicken and Rude manager. My buddies and I have been coming here for at least five years on Tuesday nights. We like the vibe of the place. Service has always been good and food was mostly good. Emma is the best waitress but this time we got a dude. My buddy ordered lemon pepper Chicken. It was rancid. I tasted a bite and had to spit it out. We informed our waiter and requested a different entree for my buddy. He watched the rest of us eat our food. Finally his food came and it was fine. When it was time to settle up we noticed they were still charging him for the second entree. We were shocked as industry practice is to comp the food due to the nastiness of the first entree and the delay in getting a new one. We asked for the manager. When she (Red haired lady around 30) came over she argued that he had eaten the second entree and should pay for that. When I objected she chewed me out for being rude. Once again we were shocked. She then took the check and comped his food only. We didn't ask for the table to be comped, we didn't ask to comp his entire check. (He had two old fashioneds.) I guess the success of the place has gone to their head. We didn't see the normal manager/chef who has always been super nice. Now we are going to look at other places in the area due to our disappointment with the food and the management. We just don't feel we can trust...
Read moreMy partner and I chose this place for our date night. We decided to sit outside since the weather was nice. The atmosphere was nice and spacious- feeling considering the overall size of the establishment. Our server was nice and attentive, but I wish she would have recommended a dish or drink as it was our first time there. We ordered some wings and pizza fries along with an old fashioned and whiskey based rosemary flavored cocktail. The wings were crunchy and flavorful, but a little messy as they were heavily sauced. I did not like the pizza fries. The fries were soggy due to the heavy layer of cheese and pepperoni and the honey drizzle made them a bit too sweet. I recommend double frying the fries so they can retain some crunch. The old fashion was well made, but the second cocktail was hard to drink. They added a sprig of rosemary so a lot of rosemary residue fell to the bottom of the glass which made it unpleasant to drink. The restaurant was busy when we left so I'm sure they have better appetizers and entrees, as well as cocktails and beers. We may try it again sometime...
Read moreVisited The Tavern at the suggestion of my parents (I no longer live in Texas and happen to be visiting). The place is very nice, we sat outside, the seating outside is nice, we were right in front of the front doors of the restaurant which had every patron entering and exiting pass by our table, that would be my only reason for the original four stars. The food was excellent, I had the southern fried catfish, the portion size is rather large and the flavor is on point! My friend had the fish and chips, she raved about how good it was and her sweet daughter (elementary age) had the kids chicken tenders with macaroni and cheese, she could not decide which she liked better (I consider this a great sign!). My daughter requested I bring her the avocado chicken sandwich (I'm sure I did not get that right) she had no complaints with this sandwich! I was torn between two different dishes and now have to go back to try what was my second option, the shrimp with risotto. The menu is both upscale and comfort food, something for everyone! I will definitely make this a staple and revisit...
