I have been getting my Chinese food for many years at Hunan Palace on Ardmore Boulevard in Forest Hills. This restaurant is located in a strip mall a few doors up from Aldi's store. The owners who usually are the people working are very nice people and very pleasant...I prefer to order lunch for pickup during the week because they offer a lunch special, which includes a variety of dishes, and you can choose between an egg roll, spring roll or wonton soup and a side of fried or white rice. I always order the Chicken with Broccoli over steamed rice which is my hands down favorite and my daughter loves the General Tsoas...It always seems to be perfectly done which is important because I like to know what I'm getting... Consistency... No surprises. One of my favorite items, the wonton soup, however, is usually a bit of a question mark each time. They really do make the best wonton soup but more often than not it is way to soggy for my taste...I always ask how it is that day because if it is soggy, I won't eat it and I don't like throwing food away...I have tried to explain to the owner that wonton soup is generally made a bit firm, at least where it stays in one piece and maintains it's shape. She tells me that more people like it better soft, mushy and in little pieces...To each his own... Just saying...I would like to poll people on that one. I have also eaten peppersteak and rice and that's another very tasty dish...Prices are moderate as far as Chinese food is concerned but well worth it... You can choose to dine in their nice sized dining room that is wheelchair accessible or call for delivery or takeout...There is free park- ing right outside the restaurant door and there are some handicapped parking spots close by...I believe they welcome children and they are open 7 days a week... Highly recommend this...
Read moreI didn’t actually eat there because it didn’t get that far. I went to the restaurant around 8 pm not realizing they only serve the buffet during lunch hours. So I decided to order something off the menu. I checked it out and it seemed like the prices were a little high for shrimp with vegetables. Most restaurants only charge setting $8 or $9 for that particular plate. They were charging $13. I was going to order it any way as I was craving Chinese food. Most Chinese places include Chinese cabbage and mushrooms, Hunan Palace does not. They were going to add $1 for each making the dinner $15. The menu stated that they served the dish with jumbo shrimp. I requested that they use the smaller shrimp instead because I’m not fond of the jumbo and I also requested they leave out the water chestnuts. You would think in asking for these things that it works offset the cost of the mushrooms and Chinese cabbage, especially the smaller shrimp which is definitely cheaper. They would not do this so I told them to forget it and I walked out. In a nut shell, they are too expensive and will not work with you. BTW: the restaurant was empty so you’d think they would want the business. I so NEVER...
Read moreI like this place a lot. It's a nice place with a good menu. The food & beverages are good. The staff have always been nice to me and my family. I would give them 5 stars, but there have been a couple of problems.
This didn't happen to me; it happened to a friend who went there with me. He asked them to make his food just as spicy as they did on the previous time that we went there. When he mentioned that it wasn't as spicy as the previous time, the guy who runs the place told my friend that he should have asked for "super-duper, extra-ultra-mega spicy" or some such gobbledygook. My friend felt insulted that they put all this on him, so he didn't tip.
When we were leaving, the lady who runs the place freaked out about his not tipping as if customers are obligated to tip. I handed her some cash. I still go there sometimes, but I know that that friend of mine will probably never return.
If they don't make the food spicy enough like they did the time...
