After hearing about Moxies opening on Las Olas I was very excited to try the new spot. Though the menu looked fantastic and full of flavor our meal was everything but that. We ordered the Steak Bites, Pot Stickers, Rack of Ribs, and Short Rib Bolognese.
Pot Stickers were ok, a little lack luster but we ate them. The Steak Bites were the only tasty item we received. The self proclaimed "fall off the bone" rack of ribs were so tough we had to cut them with a steak knife. After one rib, we couldn't even attempt to eat them. The Short Rib Bolognese was nearly laughable as the watery sauce lacked any flavor and the "slow cooked short ribs" infused in the pasta were tough and chewy. Slow roasted ribs should melt in your mouth. The "chef" or whoever is preparing the meats in the restaurant clearly doesn't understand temperature and timing of cooking meats.
I'm not the person to ever complain about food at a restaurant but I felt I should kindly tell the manager Miguel the quality of the food served. His reaction to me left me speechless. "I stopped by earlier and you said it was fine" he said. I explained we had just received to food and haven't gotten to try it yet. After two bites of the entrees we decided to ask for the check and inform Miguel about the food. He then said with a rude tone and an annoyed expression "well what was so wrong with it? Be specific!". Kindly with a smile I explained what I have just typed here. Moments later he returns to the table with a $50 gift receipt and comped the entrees. I didn't ask for that but it was greatly appreciate. What I didn't appreciate was his rude attitude, annoyed expression, and his insistence on me dissecting exactly what was wrong with the food. He had no professionalism. I wouldn't return here ever again if you paid me. Shame...
Read moreRecently, someone recommended a new restaurant on Las Olas called Moxies and they offer a heaping portion of exceptional poutine. Poutine, my friends, is to French Canadians what pepperoni is to Italians – an acquired taste. You either fall head over heels for it at first bite or remain indifferent.
Nevertheless, Moxies is quite the hangout joint. Acting on the recommendation, a couple of pals and I ventured forth to conduct our own culinary critique last night. We ordered the poutine as an appetizer to share and we all agreed that it was quite awesomely delicious.
The establishment itself is remarkable, modern and so downtownish. It spans two stories of a corner edifice, all glass, radiating a lively, and slightly raucous vibe. It's a haven for the young professionals of downtown and the Flagler Village crowd – an ambiance reminiscent of cocktail hour in downtown Manhattan.
Following our poutine indulgence, for our entrées, two of us tackled the substantial burgers, while one ventured into the realm of shrimp tacos. The burgers were positively manly super-duper delicious, while the tacos also received high praises. Beyond the poutine and the burgers, the menu boasts a tantalizing array of diverse culinary offerings.
Moxies is a two-tiered wonder, complete with a capacious outdoor terrace, an expansive bar, and generous dining areas on each level. Man, it's quite the place. And Rachael was was our most pleasant and attentive server who ensured that our dining visit was...
Read moreWe ate at Moxie’s last night after having a decent experience on a prior stay in April. This experience was vastly different. They couldn’t find our reservation even though we showed them our confirmation email and showed them we got a phone call confirming the reservation that afternoon. A slight attitude followed. We were shown to a desolate area of outdoor dining with NO breeze whatsoever even though there were plenty if tables open on the side with lots of breeze. Gloria was our waitress and told us what her favorite items were. We ordered 2: the beef tips and the cashew chicken lettuce wraps. The food was delivered by a food runner. The beef tips were good as was the horseradish dipping sauce. The lettuce wraps had no lettuce and were spicy, unlike the description. We had to wait 10 minutes for Gloria to check on us. We asked about the lettuce… she came back and said “there was a misunderstanding… you can keep the chicken dish and the lettuce wraps will be out shortly “. Stopped by once more to say they would be out “soon”. 25 minutes the chicken lettuce wraps arrived… NO chicken… only cubed tofu… and I know the difference. Gloria stopped to say the extra chicken dish wad taken was taken off the check… never asked if the overly late dish was even ok. Taken off the check??? Something we didn’t order?? No one else even approached us. Needless to say… we have plenty of money to spend on Las Olas but never...
