Choosing Regal Van Lines to move our belongings interstate was the absolute worst decision we have ever made. They are a Bait and Switch operation that lured us in with a very reasonable price at first ($5,612, based on a load volume estimate of 1,003 cubic feet (cf)). That was on 9/11/24. Seven days before the move, on 10/19/24, they conducted a “Quality Assurance” call, where they asked for exact dimensions of the 11 bookshelves, etc, and then raised the price to $10,761. Supposedly because the volume “IS going to be 1,600 cubic feet.” (Joe Sullivan, Regal Van Lines) Probably more. Probably more like 2,000 cf, or even 2,300 cf. But they would only charge us for a maximum of 1,600 cf. Unfortunately, they preyed upon the vulnerability of a 71 year old woman who wouldn’t know a cubic foot from an orangutan. And had her pay them an additional $3,000 deposit. I became aware of the severity of the gouge on the day of the move, at which point I called Regal and got involved. Joe Sullivan continued to insist that the load WOULD BE 1,600 cf. Probably more. Probably more like 2,400 cf (yes, his “probably” amount keeps going up). I had to ask him a half dozen times, “What if it isn’t? What if it’s less?” He told me the movers would show me the mark. That it WOULD BE 1,600 cf. It WOULD. But what if it’s not? “They will make adjustments” (Joe Sullivan) A few notes are in order at this point. One, no one at Regal ever mentioned that they are not an actual mover. They’re strictly a broker. Per the rules, they are required to tell us that. They didn’t. According to the rules, they’re supposed to do a physical inventory of the items to be moved, either by on site or virtual inspection. They did neither, just pulling 1,003 cf and then 1,600 cf numbers out of thin air. Buried deep in their contract is a statement to the effect that we waived this inspection. That was news to us when we finally did see it, post move. (Yes, we really really should have read every word of that contract BEFORE the move, but we thought we were dealing with a reputable company. Their contract has a couple of other interesting conditions, one of which is that I’m not allowed to disparage them on social media or review websites. I’m really going to be in trouble now.) Based on Joe’s promise that they would make adjustments if the load was less than 1,600 cf, I allowed the move to proceed. Back to the trucks Regal doesn’t have. What actually showed up at our door was two Russians in a rented Penske box truck. Fortunately, one of them did speak halfway decent English. (note: ironically, these two gentlemen from KUAT Moving in California were the only good guys in this whole adventure. And they’re actually from Kazakhstan, not Russia. They get a total 5 star rating for their role) As for where the 1,600 cf line in the truck was, they couldn’t say. However, a quick online review of the specs of a 26’ Penske rental box truck, shows that the total capacity of that truck is 1,700 cf. When all of our stuff was loaded, the truck was less than 1/3 full. So our load was less than 600 cf. Not 1,003. Not 1,600. Definitely not 2,300 or 2,400, which I guess is a good thing, else they would’ve needed another truck. We are filing complaints with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the BBB (where they are NOT accredited. See their reviews on that site for many more stories like ours), and every online review site I can find. One last note on Regal. On their website, they claim that on Yelp, they get 4.4 stars (out of five) based on 67 reviews. When I looked them up on Yelp, there were 10 reviews with an average rating of 1.2 stars (which is 9 one star reviews, with stories just like mine and one 3 star review. The 3 star reviewer wrote, “I wrote a review. I went to court. We have come to an agreement. Please take...
Read moreHorrible experience and be AWARE. So they quote cheaply and you will get another call a week or two before where they will ask about all the demotions of everything you own and try to upsell you. They wanted to raise my quote by about 1.5k but I don’t own a lot and told them no they then offered 50% off that original quote I said no. The rep then said “ I just don’t want them to up charge you on the day of”. So I kept that in mind and when the movers came I told them not to pack anything over my paid amount. So after they finish they come back and say they had to charge my an extra $200 in order to fit everything. The amount was so low I said whatever and paid it. FYI they will charge for everything: if their truck doesn’t fit in the parking area, if your location is difficult to enter, if they have to walk over a certain distance they will charge for every extra foot walked.
Anyway now for the terrible part I get a call that the truck with my stuff is coming, I come home to meet him and it’s a giant semi trailer. The driver says his partners are coming to unload the trailer. So he comes inside gives me the receipt and asks me to pay the remaining balance, I do he then goes back to his truck. About 30 minutes later he starts unloading the stuff inside and brings in my fan which has a broken base for some reason and says his partner’s are taking forever because they smoke to much. I laugh it off he then says his truck can’t be on my road so he has to move it I say alright he then leaves. With all my stuff and money. I realize he is not coming back and call him he says he has to get another truck and that’s the last I have heard.
The next day I call the moving company there’s some rude manager who doesn’t seem to care and he tells me it’s gonna cost $350 dollars to buy a shuttle to bring my stuff now because the roads aren’t graded for a Semi. Mind you this is a giant residential street so if there truck can’t be in this street I don’t know think there’s a single street in America that would allow it. So I don’t see why they use such giant trucks for such little moves. So I ask him why he took final payment and left he says nothing about it but tries to say “I’ll send you the money back if it’ll make you feel better” knowing the money is not issue but the fact their driver took off with all my stuff and is now charging me more to bring it back. Anyway they finally come back charge me $350 because they had to get a Uhual, drop off my stuff, with all my furniture disassembled and three broken items. Basically got scammed for an extra $550, and received...
Read moreNo Integrity. Not reputable. Liars cheaters thieves. They prey on the weakness and kindness of others in need. Instead of being honest they ll flip the script on you and you don't get the services they claim they offer. I had two moves in one year scheduled by regal van LLC in Ft Lauderdale FL. I was warned by a reputable co who came to my home and warned me about them. But I gave them a shot bc of their lying cheating salesman Doug/Donald and u have the gut feeling he is deceitful and deceiving u but u give him benefit of doubt. They scheduled another company to get involved and then they show up w their work order and scratch out what u paid down initially and now u got to pay them a whole another agreement which didn't match what u agreed to in first place. The first experience the guys educated me and bc they appear more honest and reputable I went for it plus they did a excellent job and I feel I should of called them from the beginning and X regal van the middle man collecting upfront fees. Now this time around I m in need of getting back from PA to FL in a week. I notify them 09-25-24 and my gut again tells me again no don't deal w that guy , I did tell him no in a text and they r good at keeping calling u going back n forth w u on phone. He draws up inaccurate proposals after u clearly had what u thought was a thorough conversation, trusting what he drafts only to get there last minute calls before they dispatch that they want more money from u and the order they wrote up is inaccurate. That do not set clear expectations from the start. They robbed me a second time now of $790.00 and telling. Me I am now out of my cancellation window and they refuse to refund my money per Daniel there boss who says oh well u signed it. I tried proving to him his shady employee and I text back n forth and conversated back n fourth and I trusted him to put the right information on the contract. He knew what I meant in texts and used that to scam me. They can keep my hard earned money bc it obvious they r hard up for money. I will though be trying to take it to court to help others not have to experience their selfless actions. Companies like these will never prosper. Until they do right by others I declare and decrees that this company's every call contract crumbles and never prospers. I recommend BBB...
