This hotel was actually a really pleasant surprise. The overall aesthetic of the hallways and rooms strikes a balance between simplicity and elegance. The design leans minimalist, with clean lines, light wood furniture, soft neutral tones, and large windows that bring in plenty of natural light. The room felt airy and modern yet comfortable (see attached photo for reference).
One area that could use improvement is the trash disposal situation. It wasn’t clear whether guests should leave trash outside the door, bring it to the lobby, or use another method. Having clear instructions would have been helpful.
The Nespresso machine included in the room was a nice touch, but nearly all of the provided pods were decaf, with only one containing caffeine. A better balance here would make a difference for coffee drinkers.
The television was a sleek 65-inch Samsung smart TV with plenty of streaming options, though many profiles from previous guests hadn’t been logged out. It would be courteous for staff to reset or sign out accounts during room prep to respect both past and future visitors.
Practical amenities were well thought out: the dishwasher and laundry machine both came stocked with detergent, and the dish soap at the sink had a surprisingly pleasant scent. The bathroom was spacious and modern, featuring a large overhead rain shower. Personally, I would have liked a handheld shower head in addition to the overhead, but I still had a great experience. The provided body wash, shampoo, and conditioner worked well for me—my skin and hair didn’t feel overly dry afterward. My wife, who tends to be more particular with these products, still found herself occasionally using the included toiletries, which says a lot.
The included “Flow” robes (available for $75 if taken home) were incredibly comfortable and definitely a highlight. Another detail I appreciated was the blackout curtains, which were impressively effective—while a faint amount of light still crept in, it was not nearly enough to disturb my sleep, and I’m a very light sleeper who prefers near-total darkness.
It’s also worth mentioning that the hotel is located right by some train tracks. A train passes by about every 15–30 minutes, which can be disruptive at first. However, the building’s strong soundproofing makes a big difference, and the hotel even provides complimentary earplugs. Between the soundproofing and the earplugs, the noise was manageable and didn’t affect my overall experience too much.
Overall, I’d rate this stay 4 out of 5 stars. The price was relatively reasonable, and staff went out of their way to let me park one of my cars for free as a courtesy since my wife and I had just gotten married that day. That said, my other car was charged $40 per night for parking, which felt excessive given the already high cost of...
Read moreI recently stayed at Sonder at Riverwalk in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and my overall experience left me with mixed feelings. The modern aesthetics and sleek design of the complex, complemented by new appliances, created a visually appealing atmosphere that I appreciated.
However, there were significant drawbacks that impacted my satisfaction. Despite the friendly staff, specifically Queen, the hotel appeared understaffed, leading to a prolonged wait during check-in. The front desk attendant was absent for approximately 20 minutes, leaving guests, including myself, waiting. I know for a fact that the attendant at the time was assisting another guest but it was odd to be in a hotel lobby for so long without seeing one employee.
My hotel room was situated very far from the elevator, requiring me to navigate through four different doors with key locks and traverse three long hallways. This proved to be quite challenging.
Another notable issue was the hotel running out of toilet paper. While I understand limitation on complimentary items, basic necessities like toilet paper should be exceptions. Guests in the lobby were left asking for it, creating an inconvenient situation.
Additionally, my experience at the restaurant/bar on Level P was marred by an unexpected gratuity charge. I would have appreciated communication from the restaurant staff about this, as the small font on the menu was insufficient to draw attention to it. Communication on such matters is crucial for a pleasant guest experience.
Surprisingly, the hotel did not warn guests about the loud freight train passing directly next to the facility. While I personally managed, families with young children may find this disturbing, affecting their sleep.
One discrepancy I observed was the mismatch between the hotel's advertised ambiance for adults and families and the actual guest demographic, which consisted mainly of young college-age individuals. While their enjoyment is commendable, it did not align with the expected atmosphere.
Lastly, the discolored water, likely due to construction, was an unfortunate surprise. Although I understand this may be beyond the hotel's control, a preemptive warning would have been appreciated. Additionally, providing clean drinking water, perhaps in the form of complimentary water bottles, would have mitigated the inconvenience.
In conclusion, Sonder at Riverwalk has its merits, but improvements in communication, staff availability, and guest expectations management are crucial for a more...
Read moreWhere to start, I checked in on Friday the 6th and noticed a weird smell in the room when I walked in. I just thought it was cleaning materials. That night I got something to eat and came back early due to traveling all day. I Fell asleep but was woken up SEVERAL times by the super LOUD train. There are train tracks right outside the room. I understand that due to their location they cannot control this. But they should make people aware of the train. I 100% would have picked a different place to stay if I knew about it. I was woken up again around 5:30am by the train and I just decided to stay awake. I went to the living room to watch some tv, there was that weird odor again. I started to smell around in the living room and realized it was coming from the couch. The smell was nasty, and I believe it was urine. I hope it was from an animal but who knows these days. I am a person who does not like conflict, so I just tried to call the front desk. They did not answer the phone, so I tried to call back later. Again, they did not answer the phone. uhhhh.. Needless to say, I did not use the living room the rest of my stay. Had dinner plans that night and got back to the room around 10pm. Fell asleep around midnight, again was woken up several times due to that train. Sunday morning, I was very tired and upset needless to say. I went downstairs and spoke to a man at the front desk. I told him my issues and He explained to me that his manager was not in, but he would give them the info and have them get in contact with me. I did not hear anything from them by 10am Monday morning so I went back down to the front desk again. I Spoke to a young lady, and I asked for the manager on duty. She informed me that one called in sick that day due to having a migraine and the other manager was new and was not very experienced on the hotel side. ??? Ok so I then went ahead and explained my issues to her. She then had the nerve to say well Mr. Robinson you are checking out today why have you waited to bring this to our attention now! I kept my cool and politely explained to her that this was my 4th attempt to get the issue addressed. She had me type in my email address and confirmed my cell number. I checked out on Monday Dec 9th at 1pm. I am writing this review on Thursday Dec 12th at 10am. I have still NOT been contacted by anyone with this hotel. I would highly recommend NOT staying...
