vegan review: dont eat here.
the Tree Hugger burrito was inedible without me having to add Chalula and salsa and cilantro to every bite. even then, i have up halfway through in spite of the fact that i was HUNGRY. and you know how being huuuuungry makes anything taste a little better than it actually is? not in this case.
the massive flavorless chunks of tofu that clearly hadnt had the liquid squeezed out before cooking sucked, but so did the beans, the rice, the pico de gallo, the guac... even the tortilla!! all of them flavorless. ugh and i’m just remembering the unmemorable, unsalted, flavorless chips… only made better after i mixed two of the unlabeled salsas from their salsa bar. i’m realizing now they must have lime wedges sitting in the salsa bar because they dont bother to add it to any of the mexican food theyre serving 🤦🏻♀️
ive never said this in a restaurant review, but if you cant cook ANYTHING right, just go out of business already. or at the very least let an actual mexican american come in and do an overhaul, because even my partner’s crunchwrap was disappointing without the pickled jalapeños (also from the salsa bar.)
this wasnt just a less-than-mediocre vegan experience. this was overall a failure to source flavorful ingredients, develop delicious recipes that are tested and can be replicated by anybody, and cook all of your proteins with care because theyre the hero of the dish. this experience made me recall all the other times ive eaten at places - both vegan and “vegan option” restaurants - where i could tell that the cooks just didnt believe that veg food could taste good, so they either didnt try or over-salted to compensate. but it wasnt just the tofu!! what the heck is their excuse, then?
i was hoping this could be my new Glitch Bar Night vegan spot since Glitch doesnt serve anything veg and this place was a 5 min walk away. it’s sad when a place clearly panders to veg folks with an out of place tofu dish but fail miserably in the execution. what’s even sadder about this place? everything except the tofu goes in all of the other dishes!! i have to imagine they rely so heavily on meat, cheese, and sour cream to do all the heavy lifting that they dont even realize how tasteless the rest of...

Read moreMy family stopped by to grad a take away order. I had the steak taco salad , my child had gringo tacos and her grandmother had a ground beef burrito (I don't have a review for the latter).
My taco was as expected. Pretty basic, nothing out of the ordinary. I was, however, disappointed with how the was steak cut. Tiny bits of medium-well done steak that are individually too small to really convey any particular flavor, and certainly not an experience of note. With a name like The Whole Enchilada, I expected flavor and passion in my mouth. Also, visually, meat scraps isn't where it's at.
My daughter had gringo tacos (I don't remember the menu description, but 3 basic tacos). No complaints. Also, they keep Capri Sun in stock. As a parent, I felt seen.
The sauce bar, a dying site, was tidy and packed with interesting flavors. This trip, I was sticking with my comfort flavors, so I went with red hot sauce, pico and the green hot sauce. ALSO, shot out for including the sauce profile descriptions. I learned something that visit!
I noticed beer, some specialty beer and maybe wine is sold. No liquor.
The ambiance was terrific! This was Friday, early evening and nearly every seat was taken, families and friends were out laughing and taking in the vibe. There's a sundeck-like setup on the street side for people watching. Very lively, fun, open and friendly environment for friends, family, after work beer and tacos, a quickie girls night. Whatevs!
The restroom is under lock and key, entry from the outside, unisex access. Generally, in decent enough shape.
The staff was very friendly. My order was correct and completed in a reasonable...
