Update 2/15/23. Ordered delivery. Ordered spicy ramen and came with just the broth and noodles. Spicy Ramen “mixed spicy takana in Pork broth served with charshu (shoulder), green onion, woodear mushroom, noodles, seaweed.” Then there’s list of boxes to check off for food mods to remove anything you don’t want. None of those boxes were checked and still didn’t have the items listed in the description. From 2 stars to 1 star. Would never recommend this location to anyone. Super disappointed.
(2 star previous review) Food was alright, service was terrible. Came here for dinner (for 2) around 8pm, was informed last call for kitchen was 8:30pm which is fine. We got seated for 10 seconds and the person ask if we were ready to order. Of course not lol, we just sat down and haven’t even taken off our jackets. When we were finally ready to order, we had to repeat and confirm our order 4 times (deluxe tonkotsu ramen, ajitama tonkotsu ramen, jasmine green tea and black sugar kakigori). The food came, asked who ordered the deluxe and I raised my hand but yet the server set it down in front of my boyfriend instead (we swapped after the server left but how weird). The kakigori took a long time to come after we had already finished our ramens and when it did finally come, the person poured the black sugar syrup on top for us but majority of it rolled off the side (wasted), also I would skip ordering this because it wasn’t that good. We had just received the kakigori for maybe a minute before the server came to ask us to pay for our bill (think it was 8:45pm at the time so they weren’t even closing yet), we paid but it felt really rude and interrupted. They also didn’t refill my boyfriend’s water cup until we were about to leave (I noticed that maybe the owner?? had to tell a server to refill the water because she noticed it was empty for some time). It wasn’t that busy for the service to be so bad. Good to try once but...
Read moreThis restaurant's food is as good as the atmosphere and service (not the waiter's fault) is annoying. First, enough with the QR code menus. It's a goofy hold-over from Covid that isn't hip/cool. These BRIGHT ORANGE QR code menus are plastered all over the restaurant. They're glued to the glass at the bar/counter eating section. The "interior design" of the restaurant is modern minimalist (and that's fine), but then everywhere you look are bright orange QR codes. Second, I ordered a bowl of ramen and asked if corn could be added. The waiter let me know it could be added. I asked him how I had to do it (on my phone) because there wasn't a corn option on the menu selection.. he told me he would have to do it because "it's a complex order". If having corn added to ramen is complex, we will never send men to the moon again (if we ever did). When the ramen came, the corn and extra pork belly I added were on a very small plate, which I then had to dump into the ramen.. why would someone order an add-on to ramen that wasn't actually in the ramen? Finally I had to listen to the waiter's back-and-forth conversation with the table next to me because they too ordered something that required some sort of accommodation which then required the waiter to call or text the manager who was already home for the day. This is no fault of the waiter who was visibly flustered by his inability to adjust orders as necessary. He was running around with some silly handheld device trying to place a few orders the entire time I was there. Get rid of the bright orange QR code menus. Get a traditional menu with photos that don't have to be expanded with my fingers. Make your add-ons easy for the waiter to include on the bill, and get cabbage as an add-on for the ramen, as has become popular in Ramen (because of Americans requesting it). PS. I was there on the...
Read moreReally surprise this place received such a high rating. I came craving for some good hot soupy ramen meal and left quite unsatisfied.
FOOD: ordered the deluxe tonkatsu; the Ebi Katsu udon; the deluxe Tsukemen; and an app of edamame.
For some reason I just did not enjoy the tonkatsu. Quite frankly I don’t know what makes it deluxe even when I compared it with other non deluxe items. Perhaps it was the thin noodles I found slightly too chewy (undercooked) or it was the greasy broth I wasn’t feeling or maybe it was how my egg was still cold. I did not finish it.
My teen got the udon. I tried it too but it was fairly plain. Good for kids who want plain broth and nothing fancy. Kind of like a plain spaghetti with red sauce type of dish for picky eaters. Nothing special.
As for the Tsukemen….we all enjoyed that A LOT more than the former two dishes. The noodles were thicker and smoother(?). The broth was tastier without being greasier. The pork was a bit too fatty but even still, the entire dish was much more worth it than the tonkatsu and udon. Maybe the higher stars are geared towards this vs other noodles.
Service: average.
Atmosphere: outside looked promising; inside is okay. Could use a cleaner bathroom. I always question restaurants with gross bathrooms since the staff uses same and it’s a bit of a reflection of cleanliness of the operation.
Parking: can be tricky since it’s the street that leads right onto GWB.
Overall: would only return for...
