Updated: In the past (up to a visit about a year ago), Papa Don's Pizza had never disappointed me. Prices are a mite steep for some items, but I was otherwise happy. A visit last Monday (August 1, 2016) changed my opinion completely.
At first glance when telling my kids where to sit, I noticed that all the tables were missing their parmesan cheese, which is a shame because we love sprinkling it on our pizza. I got the kids menus and brought them to our table, and then retrieved them all and went to the counter to order. Because the place had two other groups and three employees I saw, I wasn't expecting a lot of table service.
They generously let me order waters and substitute ice cream for drinks with the kids' meals, and were friendly. That's where the compliments end. When I ordered, the lady did not hand me my cups for the waters. Finally I grabbed them off the stack myself and filled them at the public machines. If everyone does this, the cups are about as sanitary as a convenience store.
We waited a loooooong time for anyone to come to our table. Finally, a waitress/cook brought us our garlic bread. She brought no napkins or silverware at any point. She did not ask if we needed anything, and was friendly but very rushed. The bread was burnt around the edges but otherwise decent. A few minutes later, when the food arrived, two of my kids immediately regretted their orders. Their individual pizzas were overdone, very tough and chewy, the sauce dried up, and the toppings barely existent. They declared them inedible (which is saying a lot for my son). I had to get up to get my other daughter a fork for her plate of spaghetti and meatballs. She loved the spaghetti but took one bite of meatball and hated it. I tried a different one and it was burnt to a crisp, so charred there was no meat left, period. Disgusting. She did enjoy the slice of garlic bread that came with her meal, and my meatball sandwich was decent. The pickle spear that came with it was tiny, and it lay soaking its juices into the half-broken pile of ridged potato chips on my plate.
The kids did enjoy their ice cream. I would declare most of the rest of this meal a waste of $20. Unless they miraculously improve (unlikely since it's family run), I recommend you save money and...
Read moreWe recently moved to town and decoded to try this place. We ordered right before closing and the lady who took my order over the phone was nice. My husband wasn't impressed with the pizza dough and I thought it looked and tasted frozen, it needed to be cooked more and it was just plain. Toppings were good and plenty for the money but the crust was nasty. I was happy to see they served Grinder sandwiches because I love them, I grew up eating them at a great grinder shop in Wichita but the half Grinder sandwich I got was a bunch of tomatoe sauce, a few pieces of Italian sausage, a slice or two of mozzarella and 2 big pepperoni slices..I thought perhaps they gave me the wrong order, nope...this is their idea of a Grinder sandwich. Please call that nasty sandwich the pepperoni sandwich or something because it is NOT a GRINDER and it's false advertisement. I can't eat sauce and pepperonis and my husband can't either so it went to waste. I had 3 of 6 chicken wings and they were ok, good flavor but needed to cook longer and crisp up some more as it was pretty fatty. Over all, we will not be eating there again. There's too many good restaurants in town to waste money...
Read moreWas there with field trip class and they were super busy…. but pretty disappointed in the fact that they didn’t give the advertised bread with my spaghetti. Especially since they were cooking the correct bread for it with the meals before my order and with the meals after mine. I understand that they were busy, but someone could have gotten out a fresh loaf of bread instead of getting sandwich bread instead. The noodles were not quite done and my order took so long to get to me that I didn’t have any time to eat it before the class was ready to leave before the next part of...
