From start to finish the Copper Spoon met and exceeded all of our expectations. We had numerous of our friends recommend that we make a reservation and ask for a booth by the bar. It did not disappoint! These booths were both intimate and cozy. Our spot specifically gave us a perfect angle allowing us to observe the barstaff as they mixed cocktails all night.
We heard rave reviews on the korean bbq wing appetizer. THESE WINGS WERE THE BEST MENU ITEM WE HAD ALL NIGHT! These are a "must try" menu item if you find yourself in the area. They have the perfect taste and texture that one looks for in a wing. They have a crispy exterior coated with just the right amount of rub and glaze. On the inside the meat was hot, juicy, and tender.
The perogies were recommended by our server Ricardo who took excellent care of us all night. They were tasty ,however had enough lactose in them that I had let my wife enjoy them. When we reserved our table, I noted my wife and I's food allergies. Ricardo did an awesome job remembering these and accommodating with our meal accordingly.
Our drinks were all fantastic. We got an Appletini, Espresso Martini, an Eastside, and Clover Club . Each one was uniquely delicious. I would get all of them again. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Clover Club.
My wife ordered the ribeye with chorizo butter and carrots. The steak was cooked to medium just as she ordered it. The steak itself had good fat content and was seasoned well. Most of the flavor came from the chorizo compound butter. It was a bold flavor combination, but the steak maintained its natural beef flavor. The carrots were cooked well and they were served with housemade ranch.
My burger was very hearty. The meat and toppings were piled high enough that I ultimately resorted to using my knife and fork. The bun was soft and buttery. The egg was fried over easy. They even substituted an aged cheddar onto the burger for me. My only criticism with the burger was that it was very one dimensional with its texture. The burger would have benefited from fresh or fried onion, a fresh piece of lettuce, or even some crispy bacon to add some crunch.
The side of potatoes was my second favorite part of the meal. They were prepared with great care in a way that left them crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy in the middle. The seasoning and sauce were great compliments, and I easily could have had another helping. I enjoyed the wings and potatoes so much I could have made a whole meal out of just them alone.
In honor of my wife's birthday, we were offered a complimentary dessert. She chose cheesecake with an assortment of mixed berries and fresh whipped cream. I did take a small nibble of the cheesecake because it looked too good to resist. It was the perfect end to a very well rounded meal.
We thoroughly enjoyed every part of our meal. However, like many other restaurants, Copper Spoon offers a seasonal rotating menu. We were informed that some of these menu items would only be served for a few more weeks before they switched to the fall themed menu. Thank you for a great experience. We can't wait...
Read moreI stopped in to pick up a crème brûlée for my nephew about a month ago. While I have had this one before and enjoyed it, he generally likes the one from a restaurant on the Landing. I suggested that he try this one given that his previous one was, frankly, severely curdled. When I picked up the order, I did not check it and I likely should have. Arriving home and giving him this, we noticed that it was really burnt and that the entire brûlée tasted so bitter. He threw it away. I’ve attached picture of this. I contacted the restaurant and let them know. The manager on duty said that he would remove the payment from our card and to stop in at another time so that they could make it right. Given that he was so disappointed, I stopped back in before close between 9:10-9:30ish. The cashier rang me up for another crème brûlée, I paid for it, and requested a receipt from the ticket that was to be refunded. The manger brought another one out and apologized. This time, I did check the dessert and it looked exactly as it did in the past. I have attached this photo as well. 3 stars because to send out a brûlée that was as burned, in my opinion, is unacceptable and just poor service! While it was quite an inconvenience to come all the way back, I was a happy that my nephew could get an order of the quality that we have known. Fast-ford to today, I stopped in to pick up a crème brûlée today and it was again, quite different again. While it wasn’t burnt, it was messy and appeared thrown around in the container. It didn’t have the high-quality look that it has had in the past. I requested a remake of this and the lady at the front end told me that they all look this way because they scoop out of the ceramic dish. I then showed her a picture from the last time I ordered one and she said, “well, it’s not going to look that” even though this was the exact same dessert from the exact same place! I ended up just requesting a refund and went out to Bakerstreet. There seems to be quite a lack of consistency, so 2.5 stars! If you love crème brûlée like we do, maybe wager to catch Copper Spoon on a good day or just find...
Read moreOn the hunt for something new, upscale with a touch of rustic nature? As the name would suggest, the copper spoon fits the bill, but in its own interesting twist of fashion. Boasting one of the top rated mixologist in the nation, the Copper Spoon makes good use of his skills by offering a cocktail menu so extenstive they can't even print it all out. And for what ever you are in the mood for, they are able to help narrow down that list and even have you try something unexpected.
Speaking of the help, staff is top notch. Service is very fair and well received. Not once did we feel ignored or brushed off, and even took the time to swap stories.
How about the food? Well I can't say it was lacking in presentation, flavor, portion sizing or even pricing, what was a bit of a downer was the selection size and theme. It was nice to have options from a variety of culinary flavors such as classic American burgers to Asian fusion, the lack of options within each variety left me with a bit of a sour sense for the menu. Understandably, they do rotate their menu items often, so perhaps another visit will be necessary for a better understanding. But on the aspect of the taste, was not disappointed at all. Perfect portion size, great depth of flavors, though I felt the Thia noodles could have used a little more heat, but for what it's worth, I am not going to complain in the slightest.
So, if I'm speaking so highly of this place, why still only rare 4 stars? Well, allow me to assist. The biggest thorn for the Copper Spoon is their location. Located right along the baseball stadium in downtown with an overlooking balcony sounds like a prime location. But for anyone who knows how downtown streets can be, finding a place to park is like pulling teeth. Not to mention the curb appeal surrounding is less than appealing. There was always the worry of my car either being towed, stolen, or broken into. And for that, which I understand is much beyond the control of the establishment, is why I feel a perfect 5 stars is just out of reach for the...
