Our family's Christmas Eve dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in downtown Fort Wayne was an ordeal that marred our festive spirit. Expecting a night of fine dining, we instead encountered a series of service failures that left us frustrated and hungry.
Upon arrival, the restaurant was surprisingly half-full, yet our service was inexplicably slow. We were initially greeted by our waiter, who informed us another staff member would also assist us. Despite this, the sequence of service was confused, with appetizers arriving before our drinks – which themselves took an hour to be served, forcing us to eat our starters parched.
The wait for our entrees was agonizingly prolonged, extending to about three hours. Throughout this period, the managerial staff, including the general manager, exhibited a baffling lack of urgency and competence in addressing our growing dissatisfaction. The general manager, in particular, displayed unprofessional behavior by using a walkie-talkie at our table, which did little to resolve our concerns and instead, underscored the chaotic management.
When we voiced our complaints, the reaction from the general manager was not only unhelpful but seemed to emotionally overwhelm him. Despite the severe inconvenience we experienced, the restaurant made no gesture to amend our bill, expecting us to pay several hundred dollars for what was unequivocally subpar service.
Further compounding our disappointment, we learned of another incident that night involving deceptive practices with expensive wines. A fellow diner shared that they had purchased premium wines that were allegedly secured in a wine locker by the restaurant, only to discover later that their wines had been sold off. This dishonesty not only constitutes theft but also suggests a pattern of unethical behavior.
Our subsequent ban from the restaurant, following our refusal to settle the full bill after such egregious service, is not only unjust but insulting. It is evident that Ruth's Chris in Fort Wayne prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction and integrity.
I cannot recommend this establishment. Diners seeking a trustworthy and enjoyable experience should consider other venues that respect and value their patrons.
If you want a horrible time and thieves of unjust enrichment, then this is the place to go. I'd rather go to a local steak joint or Pine Valley than this horrible establishment. Ever since the former General Manager left this Ruth's Chris it has gone...

(Update 02/15/2025 Valentine's date night visit) My wife and I had an amazing dinner that night. We got sat almost immediately and we were given plenty of time to make our dinner choices. The music was relaxing and calming. I lost myself in the romantic atmosphere sitting beside my love of my life. I challenged the bartender for a lemon gin martini and it was very tasty. My wife had a raspberry drink that was very sweet that I couldn't drink, but rest assured she liked it.
For the appetizer we had a oyster platter. My wife wasn't too sure about because she typically doesn't like oysters but this one she really loved. It reminded me of eggs Benedict but with oysters. So yummy!
By 8 oz. Filet was a good cut and a perfect size for the meal. No need to upgrade to 11 oz unless you're planning on taking it home I opted to get the lobster however I thought the lobster was bland and could have used a little bit more spices.
For dessert we had the chocolate cake. It was topped with a chocolate ganache that was rich with chocolate flavor and perfect with every bite.
At the end of our dinner, I went to put my meal points on my Ruth's Chris app and found that I was able to get an appetizer for free due to a sign up bonus.
I work downtown by the restaurant now and I think I will visit on Fridays when they're open sometimes.
As far as stars go, The food stays at five stars, The service would be dropping down a star. The server was probably busy with bar back activities and I wish they had checked on our table a little bit more. Also, at a high-end restaurant like this, I expect the front of house manager to stop by your table and say hi and see how things are with our meal.,but they did not
Lastly, I'm bumping up the atmosphere to five stars. They don't have Irish high step dancers, nor did they have any musicians at the time, but the jazz and the pop on the speakers added just enough ambiance to create a layer of gentle sound so your private conversations won't be overhead by others.
If you've read my review. Thank you.
I recommend this restaurant for well established relationships, expensive business dinners and to any foodie (single or otherwise) that wants to have a great...
Read moreLet me start by saying that this is hands down the best steak in Fort Wayne. We've been to all the steakhouses in the Fort, and this is THE TOP. To start, I had the chopped salad and my husband had the wedge. The wedge salad was large, delicious and the bleu cheese was awesome. The chopped salad had the best presentation of a salad I've ever seen. And it was super tasty. For dinner we split the ribeye, small seafood tower and baked potato. All the food was exactly what you'd expect from this kind of restaurant. The food gets a 14 out of 10.
Now onto the Service. This is where it fell short. I think our server was new. I asked what the small seafood tower included and his response was "I've never had anyone order one, so I'm not sure." Ugh...It turned out it was very ample for two people, but when I'm spending $90 on one menu item, I expect the server to tell me what I'm getting. I expected oyster forks (the little seafood forks for shell fish) to accompany the seafood shell cracker, but that didn't happen. We made do with our regular forks. Our water was empty a couple of times, which started to really upset me. And we had to ask for bread, instead of it being offered. We ordered our baked potato loaded, but it showed up with just butter. We asked for a side of sour cream, hoping the server would realize the mistake, but that didn't happen. Ironically, the table across from us, with the same server, asked about the difference between the small and large seafood towers. He fumbled through his answer and they ended up ordering the large. Hopefully the server learned something about the seafood towers since he delivered at least two tonight. I probably should have brought our issues to a manager, but I understand the service industry and try to give as much grace as possible. However, when I'm spending 5 star money, I expect 5 star service.
In conclusion, the food was phenomenal, the service, not so...
