The service was good, inside was super clean, had decent amount for seating, had very comfortable chairs. But let's face it you don't go to a restaurant for how things look you go for the food and unfortunately that's were they failed. My buddy and I went there for lunch, we got our orders in was a little disappointed they don't allow you to split sauces so for the order of 6 wings I could only choose one sauce. I choose the bok bok, with cheese corn. My buddy got the Gangnam style and cheese fries. There was a little bit of a wait, but a place like that I'm sure it's made to order, which I wasn't expecting it to be like a fast food place. The bok bok had absolutely no flavor it just tasted like butter, not sweet, not tangy, no smokey and definitely no heat. Also tried his Gangnam and had a hint of sweetness to it. The wings themselves were very poor quality of wings not plump like you'd expect from a wings place, more like the wings you get in the freezer section of a grocery store. Also tried his cheese fries and all it is are fries with a dusting of a cheese powder, wasn't bad but wast great wouldn't spend 4.99 on it. The only thing was good were the cheesy corn, and that was delicious! Had great flavor, corn was sweet cheese was good and had a red seasoning on top kinda like chili flakes but didn't have any heat just a very good flavor.
Update I really wanted to like this place, so I gave it another try. This time, I went around 4pm, and the 2 girls bebind the counter were crazy busy. I was the 3rd person in line to have my order taken, it stood there for a good 10mins just to place my order, I got 6pc of the k-town wings. I completely understand being under staffed. When I placed my order the lady was very kind apologized for the wait. Found a table that was half way clean, most seats had ice cream droppings on it and the tables did too. Again they were super busy behind the counter, definitely needed a third person just to help take orders and keep the customer area cleaned and straightened. This time when I got the wings, they were decent quality this time, and the sauce did have flavor to it with heat this time. Had a nice crunch when you bit into it. Still though $10 for 6pc wings, it just...
Read moreThis is a Korean fried chicken pop-up located at Sweet Monster Ice Cream.
Background: A Korean-American who has lived in Korea for over 10 years and tried most of the fried chicken franchises in Korea. I can say that the sauces at this pop-up are pretty authentic. I tried six wings of Korean Sweet Chili sauce (yangnyeom) and six wings of Soy Garlic sauce.
Sauce: The Korean Sweet Chili sauce was less sweet than the OG sauce, which I liked better, but I would have preferred a spicier sauce. The Soy Garlic sauce was good, but it tasted more of soy sauce than garlic, so I wish it had more garlic flavor. However, I deducted half a star from the sauces since they were lightly glazed, and there was little residual sauce at the bottom of each container, making me question if they used the glazing method due to cost-saving or on purpose.
Wings: When it comes to the wings, I gave a 2-star deduction since they were straight-up fried chicken wings, not a whole chicken like most authentic Korean fried chicken places. The wings were not brined nor battered, so it is hard to call them "fried chicken." The wings were crisper than B-dubs and about the same size.
Overall: I would rate this place 3.5 stars. The sauces were pretty legit and the wings were lightly glazed, but there was significantly less sauce (.5 stars deduction). However, I can say some people might prefer this. A huge deduction came from it being wings, not a whole chicken. When they name their store "Chicken" I usually expect whole fried chicken not the wings.
If you are a chicken wing fan and want to try a taste of authentic Korean Fried Chicken sauce, give it a try. However, I may not be returning for the same menu as they use wings and the wings were not saucy. But if they make a whole chicken and/or saucy wings, I will definitely try them again because Korean chili sauce is good. I think chicken wings with Asian Zing sauce from B-dubs can be a cheap/good alternative as well, so I wonder how they are going to compete...
Read moreJust had the worst service here today! I come here often and it's normally the usual unpleasant service you normally get, but nothing like today. I order two orders of the 12pc wings, and what usually takes 30 to 35 max, this order took almost an hour, by 10 minutes it wasn't an hour. Never once did the three girls who were there let me know it was going to be a while because the cook was probably busy or anything like that. As a matter of fact, Mia, who took my order told me it would be about 20 minutes. Needless to say, it was almost an hour and the food was barely warm. Seems like I need to rethink if I want to buy here again. I really do enjoy their ice cream and food, but this experience just didn't sit well with me. I know it my opinion doesn't matter, but I think everyone reading this speak out on their service there. We pay good money for them not to give service...
