My husband called for a reservation for our 60th anniversary. We have celebrated several anniversaries at the oyster bar and expected a wonderful evening. When we arrived, we were offered a two topper right inside the front door even though he called to celebrate our 60th anniversary. He objected, and after quite a while, they managed to find another table for us. Incidentally, the two tables by the front door were not occupied all evening because people refused them
When our server, and even though I remember her name, I will not mention it approached our table. We were very surprised that she didn’t ask if we were celebrating something special because that had always happened when we went to the oyster bar in previous years. She was cordial and she asked if she could get us a beverage while we looked at the brand new apparently not used before this week menus
The cocktails we ordered were good and she said she did not have a specialty to offer tonight because the chef wanted to concentrate on becoming familiar with the new menu
We had the crabcakes as an appetizer and they were excellent as always
When she returned to take our order, things went well and then she came back to ask if we wanted another cocktail and I looked at her and I said we were supposed to get a bottle of wine and she looked puzzled and then suddenly had a memory that yes, we had ordered a bottle of wine
The entrée we ordered was good but being a seafood bisque, it was about half the size that we had gotten last time we had were there
My husband was all over himself apologizing to me and I told him no it is fine. The food was wonderful, but it was not the usual really friendly place unless you are someone who comes in on a weekly basis or comes in with a party of 68 to 10 people. We would’ve done better receiving if we had just gone in with no reservation. What do you know about it? It’s OK we’ve had 60 wonderful years together and one unhappy disrespectful eating experience, candy rice...
Read moreThis was our 3rd trip to the Oyster Bar since we found it last year. The food is fantastic, my wife loves oysters so she is in 7th heaven when we go there. This trip was different, the food was fantastic but the waitress was very poor. I normally leave a 20% tip but this time I debated between no tip or a small tip, I opted for a small tip of $2.00 normally it would have been $10.00. My wife suffers from early stages of Alzheimers so her ability to make quick decisions is poor. We ordered starters of Oysters for her and clam chowder for me plus I ordered crab cakes while my wife tried to decide on another item. I asked the waitress to go ahead and take care of other customers while my wife checked the menu. She eventually settled on clam chowder also. We had arrived at 12:30 was seated, was brought water.then ignored for what I consider too long. Other patron came in was seated and served quickly while we waited. Eventually the clam chowder and oysters were brought to the table, we ate and waited. Eventually our waitress arrived to take the rest of the order. The crab cakes and her chowder came. We ate and waited,. As other people were served,, we waited. Eventually we were asked if we wished coffee and dessert, we opted for coffee and dessert to go.. Coffee was brought and we waited. Waitress eventually came and took the order for dessert to go and asked if we wanted refill on the coffee we said yes and we waited, eventually the waitress came and said that they were brewing another flask of coffee. She brought refills and we waited. After taking other customers bills and clearing them she eventually came to us with the bill, I gave her the small change and a $100 bill, she left with the money and we waited. We finally was able to leave at 2:45. The bill was 50 plus dollars and I left a $2 tip. We will return as the food is great, and hopefully I can...
Read moreYet another edit of my review: Went tonight and the service was really bad. Took a long time to be greeted by our server, then took a long time to get drinks, then took forever to have our order taken. We watched people--with other servers--who came in after us be seated, fed, and leave, before we even had our food. We were there for over 2 hours and 15 minutes and we did not have appetizers or dessert. Our server didn't bring us bread until the second time we asked. She never refilled a drink. Another server came by and topped off our water glasses a couple of times. And, for the Oyster Bar, it wasn't busy. There were empty tables. And it was really cold in there. The food was great, but I can't give a five stars when the service was as bad as it was tonight.
(This is an edit of my previous three-star review.) Two recent visits to The Oyster Bar have been nothing short of excellent. Glad to see that things appear to have settled in with the new owners and that they are back on track!
So disappointed. Oyster Bar has long been a favorite, but was disappointing tonight. The only fresh fish options were Mahi Mahi, swordfish, or salmon-- no nice light fish. So I ordered the crabby prawns. The crab cake portion was bland, the sauce was weirdly sweet, and the shrimp were overcooked. The salad was warm with some greens that were already past their prime and getting slimy. The breading on my husband's walleye was too heavy. Service was decent, although the server never asked how our food was. The bright point was the fresh oysters. They...
