THE SPOT
Simply fantastic.
I have been waiting on a Fort Worth location for a while. These pies are so good, I have been driving to Dallas a couple times a year with no other purpose than dropping a whopping 40 smackers on these top-tier tartes.
The Fort Worth location is on South Main near Justin and Dickie's. This area is the latest up-and-coming hipster spot, but it's only about 1/3 of the way there. The place, just like their McKinney and Deep Ellum locations, is window-serve. You walk up from the south to hop in line, kick a foot-level doorbell and place your order. There are two small problems with this - there is nowhere to sit and eat if you want a slice; and there is really nowhere to wait without blocking the sidewalk. Don't think you can stop in for a coffee and a slice - you'll need to either sit curbside or take a hike to a more permanent spot.
I actually had to wait 30 minutes to get the pie I wanted (Cloud Nine), but since I've had it before, I knew it was worth the wait and didn't mind. I suspect this will get better the longer the location is open. Ok now...
THE PIES
Blue Steel - COMING SOON
Cloud Nine - this is it, folks. This is the one. This pie is so thick and rich they should call it Cardi. A lightly toasted brown-sugar meringue covers the real star: the butterscotch custard. Don't worry if you don't like butterscotch - this ain't Werther's. Crust on point - near perfect. The caramel comes in strong to balance all that out, sweeten it up a bit more and, man, I really just can't put into words. You need to try this pie. Like now. Go.
The Drunken Nut - COMING SOON
Dr. Love - Time to get real. Red velvet is just chocolate, ok? It's red and that looks good, makes for a good photo. It's supposed to have a brownie texture but to me it was just a really thick chess. The cream cheese did not come through for me and I have to be honest, this was by far my least favorite pie from Emporium. I say save your money for another pie unless you are a big chess fan. Go for the Cloud Nine if you want unique sweet, or the Smooth Operator if you want chocolate.
In The Limelight - Key limes are usually coast-side confections, but you know a GOAT don't live in the ocean. I loved mine. I'm saying it's about time for a greatest-of-all-time key lime in its prime and I ain't lyin'. Get one.
Lord of the Pies - COMING SOON
Smooth Operator - it's French silk, don't let that go over your head - smooth is right there in the name. Somehow more than a mouthful of chocolate in every bite. The secret sauce here is actually the pretzel crust. It throws in some salt to get on the other side of the piped filling and rosette. Emporium nails this...
Read moreHappiest of happy days that Emporium has come to Fort Worth!! Even if you're not normally a big pie person, this is the best dessert in DFW!! Notice I said best dessert....Not just best pie! I can't rave enough about them!
When my husband and I lived in Dallas, we visited the Deep Ellum location at least once a month. Since moving to Fort Worth a year and a half ago, we detour up to 30 minutes off route just to stop by for pie anytime we're in the Dallas vicinity. But no more!! We have our own! 🎉
All their pies are amazing! Other than Dr. Love, that one I can take or leave. They have some rotating pies as well with some super creative holiday/seasonal selections!
Our two favorite regular rotation pies:
The Cloud 9 is to die for. I dare you to not fall in love with this thing. You don't even need to know anything else about it, you're gonna love it!! (See photo. Yes, it's half eaten, I couldn't wait!)
Lord of the Pies is their iteration of an apple pie, and WOW IS IT PIE! Chunky, caramely, thick, oozing with goodness. An amazing take on a classic.
All of the seasonal pies we've tried have also been just perfect. I don't remember what it's called, but their fall pumpkin pie is dangerously addicting.
Dining room is opening in the fall, and I'll be parking in there soaking up the pie sweetness as soon as I can! Til then, their cute walkup pie window does the trick!
Anyway, could go on and on, but they're just great people, great pie, awesome experience every time.
Thanks for coming to Fort Worth Emporium! We...
Read moreI visited here last week because I love pies, and I decided to try five different pie slices.
Smooth Operator: 4/5 The crust wasn't too thick, and it had a broken cookie-like texture that paired well with the chocolate. The chocolate was rich and had a sophisticated sweetness, not at all like cheap or overly sweet chocolates.
Lord of the Pie: 3.5/5 Personally, I don't like tart flavors, so my score is lower, but I can guarantee that this pie is fresh and embodies all the advantages of an apple pie. The apples were thick and filled with juice, blending perfectly with the cinnamon.
Buttercream Gang: 3/5 The solidified custard cream was decent, but it didn't stand out compared to the other pies. It wasn't overly sweet and had a pleasant aroma, which paired nicely with milk.
Nutty Honey: 5/5 I would revisit this place just to taste this pie again. The peanuts sprinkled on top enhanced the flavor of the rich filling, and the cream in between prevented it from being overly sticky. The intense and sweet peanut taste, along with the honey at the bottom, provided the perfect finishing touch.
The Nannerz: 5/5 It felt like a cream pie for cream lovers. The soft banana and vanilla custard inside melted in your mouth, with the perfect maple caramel to finish it off. It...
