I was initially drawn here a few years ago for the cozy, modestly traditional, and intimate atmosphere and decor. All of which this establishment does really well. Their kitchen is partially open so that you can see sushi being prepared, and the interior is small enough so that it feels like a more private venue.
The food quality is unparalleled in the dfw area, you’re gonna be hard pressed to find better quality sushi outside of maybe a couple unique dining experience establishments. They have a pretty standard selection of appetizers which are really good, but not where they stand out from other sushi places with exceptions the Tuna Tower and Masunosuke Crudo which are higher dollar items for appetizers but other reviews rave about these items. They have a reasonably wide menu of rolls which is where they start to do really well for themselves. I typically divide rolls into a few categories: basic favorites (less complex in composition, wider appeal), authentic selections (truer to Japanese sushi), Complex Rolls (typically signature items that can be authentic or Americanized). They have enough of the basics you could take your kids here and have no issue ordering, and even if you prefer more nuanced sushi they do their basics well enough so that they will still be enjoyed. Their authentic rolls arent clearly indicated on the menu which I would prefer if they were, but if you know what you’re looking for it’s not hard to pick out really good items which were on parr with sushi I have had in the Marianas and southern pacific islands. Their complex rolls encompass both American as well as authentic compositions, but both accomplish the culinary purpose of sushi incredibly well. A particular favorite of mine that I’ve seen other reviews praise is the rocky roll, that roll was so good that I have continued to think about and have a craving for a week after last I had it.
Their service has been quick, friendly, and knowledgeable about their menu every time I have been.
I cannot speak highly enough about this restaurant, if you are a sushi enthusiast living in dfw this is a spot...
Read moreI actually visited Little Lilly last weekend for my husbands birthday. He had been trying to convince me to try sushi for ages, but I had tried it before (from a chain, granted) and it was awful. It was slimy and reeked of that "fishy" smell (which I hate). I ate a few pieces, but immediately felt queasy and swore it off after that. But after his rave reviews of the place I thought I'd try it. And, OMG. It may sound silly, but this food was literally life changing; I can't even explain it.
We both got a nigiri bento box; it came with miso soup, salad, a half roll and 6 pieces of nigiri. The miso soup was perfectly satisfying, the salad was super crispy (I really liked the tofu dressing) and the nigiri was AH-MAy-ZING. For real. The fish was so fresh; I wouldn't have been surprised to hear that they just caught it that morning. It was not slimy, wasn't stinky -at all-, and just melted in your mouth. The chef was fantastic and the waitress was very sweet and patient.
I really don't have a single bad thing to say about this place (which is saying a lot for me). The restaurant is on the smaller side, but everything about it was so cute and I really enjoyed the unique feel of the place. I felt that the prices were very reasonable, and the portions were perfect. The only con for me is that I don't live in Fort Worth; I'd probably be there every week if I did.
If you are looking for a sushi spot, this is the place. You wont regret it.
*if you need to eat gluten free, they can accommodate, just let them know when you order :) I always have to be wary when I try a new place (because of my celiac) but I did have any adverse effect after...
Read moreCame on a weekday night, right before it began raining. Had called ahead to reserve a table for five as we know the small cafe gets crowded quickly, even on a rainy weekday night. As we were eating, it filled up! People came in and stowed wet umbrellas in the convenient umbrella stand.
There was a new-ish sushi place on the way, but we continued on as we knew the food is consistently good here.
Everyone enjoyed the dishes, sharing tastes. Half my spider roll was begged away by a young one who was also enjoying a shrimp roll. Tried the shrimp roll and prefer my nicely sauced spider roll. My tasty seaweed salad was easily shared. Wished there was just a little more eel in my unagi roll.
My tekka maki was delicious, but it was not a pretty presentation. Note to management: please ensure an even distribution of tuna and a uniform square shape. Thank you!
Hubby's shrimp with rice came out exceptionally late. I think the chef made up for it with a generous portion of richly seasoned, nicely sized shrimp.
I didn't try the fried okra with mayo & spices or the sashimi/nigiri order, but it disappeared. A piece here and a piece there, and my sushi fix is complete!
The waitstaff may not dress as professionally as other "nicer" sushi places, but they are mostly family, so I won't hold it against them. It is not normal for typical sushi places to have the grill out by the dining room, but it's a pretty tight spot. Unless they move to a bigger location, it is what it is.
We had a messy eater and they gladly brought another warm, moistened hand towel.
Of course...
