Not surprised at the low reviews on this place as they do not know how to treat people as clients this is mostly due to the disrespectful Gm store manager, this effects everybody in they're store due to the attitude of the authority in the place. Mostly employees have to fight to keep the place going, so sad it had to be this way. While nothing is really special about this place I was the first one with my friend on the first day in the Texas BB Q Metv friendly employees of course but again management is just not respectful of a potential employee or can even Identify a good client, for this I shop elsewhere this place is not far from me but a total disappointment from the old Austin locations I've been in. Whatever political involvement recently happened it's really taken is toll on the atmosphere of H.E.B. I've not visited recently nor plan to because of the bad taste that H.E.B. Alliance left me with upon multiple visits not including missing a potential good employee opportunity. I continue to be in management myself but I certainly don't disrespect my older clients or even younger employees.
It is of the upmost importance that companies properly handle selection of store managers in the operations of a facility this size, these managers obviously have no clue how to handle anything but avoiding any sort of communication to potential clients or employees.
So there, this is my second bad review on this place, so hopefully this will either encourage H.E.B to reselect they're management team and review the buisness practices based solely on the customer service which is obviously non existent unless a employee in the non management position is taking up the slack for the poor management of this place.
And they are there, I encountered good employees.
So although I am sure to get a AI response from H.E.B that is usually all they do I they obviously hope you just go away.
My review is based on the whole shopping trips and experience before and when this location opened in Alliance while The Texas BBQ was the first part of our in store experience, I shopped there until the GM disrespected me and of course my friend ask me not to bring home H.E.B branded products as he to was not understanding why this sort of thing is allowed to go on as he has been in customer service for many more years than the young store General Manager at this...
Read moreI feel this is more of a place that would attract tourist rather than actual residents of Texas that would have no idea what a True Texas BBQ really is. I wasn't able to cook out this year for 4th of July as I didn't have the means to so I ended up ordering take out to cover it for this year.
The food: You can tell that the Brisket is smoked in a electric smoker. The smoke had no flavor and the Brisket was barely seasoned if at all. True Texas BBQ would use a wood smoker and pair it with a favorable flavor according to the wood. There was 2 options for brisket, lean and fatty. When they mean fatty, they really mean it... Usually when I see fatty brisket, there is a thicker layer of fat closer to the outside layer of the brisket, not the whole thing being fat. That is being knit picky though. Sausage: Well it's sausage the only way you mess this up is the prep phase or cooked to long. Sausage is normal and there are better places.
Beans: A bit more on the soupy side, but they put Shredded brisket in their beans. While this does add to the beans, it doesn't help it, cause what made them soupy was the fat from the brisket, if you enjoy that kind of stuff more to you. They where pretty normal as far as beans go. They didn't WOW me.
Cornbread: Well it's pretty hard to mess up corn bread, but man this cornbread was so sweet, that it over powered the jalapenos in the corn bread. While it is the right idea, it just didn't hit the spot cause it was so sweet. It felt more like a dessert cornbread rather than a side.
The service was decent though as we ordered for pick up. I was early and they had finished the order as soon as I got there. So the food was decently hot. I can't really knock them on the service.
HEB has a nice atmosphere and that is where this restaurant is located.
Overall: If you want True Texas BBQ, there are better options available...
Read moreI decided to give them a try and I am glad I did. I ordered a 3 meat plate - Sausage, lean brisket, turkey, Mac and chesss, and collard greens w/ a side of Serrano cornbread.
Nice amount of food in my opinion - I did not finish the sausage, mac n cheese, and cornbread.
Meats: Turkey - it was moist and well seasoned. My fav item of all I tried. Sausage- not anything special, no real flavor yet it is not greasy so that is a plus Brisket- nice flavor with a gentle kick yet a little on the dry side without sauce, I usually do lean at Rudy’s and it is still moist . I would give it another try.
Sides- Collard Greens - too much juice yet they did taste good, I would prefer less sodium. I would grab these again and probably mix with some frozen ones to get the sodium level correct for me. Mac n Cheese: I wanted to love it yet I couldn’t. It has a great cheese to noodle ratio yet it is too salty for my liking. I honestly think it is the cheese they use. I ate two portions and decided to quit. Serrano Cornbread- I got the kick at the end yet it was good. The texture reminds me of jiffy. I would skip the butter or get it in the side because it was just plopped non the better so it was soggy. I like that is individually baked.
Overall: I give it a 3 out of 5. I would definitely go back. The Mac is what lowered the score just because the sodium level was disappointing.
Definitely give them a try, you will not regret it. Excited to have H‑E‑B...
